Marcus is in another Tennis Tournament again this week. It is the 2008 JR Bozeman City Tournament. Marcus is entered in the 12s Singles, 12s Doubles and 12s Mixed Doubles. All draws have a consolation draw if you lose your first round match, so Marcus is guaranteed at least six matches.
His draws have just been posted (if you want to follow his progress you can go to http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=69889) and I am so disappointed. Marcus always seems to get such crappy draws. I should expect this as he is the youngest kid in the draw and also he and his boys doubles partner are the youngest doubles team, but I just wish for once hed get an easy draw. The last tournament he played in here in Bozeman he lost in the first round in both singles and doubles to the eventual winners and yet he went on to win both consolation draws. This week the draws are tougher and there is a chance that he could lose all six matches, although, his mixed doubles partner is MUSTARD!
The Bozeman City Tournament will always be special to me as it was his first ever tournament that he played in (last year) and hopefully he will enjoy it as much. I just want him to have fun and hopefully his racket wont break in the middle of a match again.
Ill update his scores and give you reports later or you can check the website for his scores.
lol....knowing a number of the kids in the tourny I'd much rather him play and easier player than have to fight it out with a guy four years older who has already won a match....but hey....luck of the draw.....hopefully he will start having easier draws down the road. It looks like he will play two events in August.
I wish he'd get the points for "beating" bye though.
I kinda fancy his chances in the mixed doubles.....esp as he choose his partner based on her looks.....I thought it was because he was friends with her brother....but he told me, "She is pretty daddy....I like to admire her....." Now I wonder if he plays doubles with her brother just so that she is around to watch his matches.

Is that Marcus or Marat?

Marcus and his partner won their mixed doubles 6-2, 6-1. It sounds like it was easy, but the match took over an hour. There were tons of long games and the four kinda hung out together at the net and all talked during change overs. There were lots of compliments going on out there. It was just great to watch. I got match point on video and will load that later. Marcus ended the point with a sweet winner hit between his opponents. I think only three or four games didn't go to deuce, the score really flattered Marcus and Morgan. They are now just one match away from the title.
Marcus did really well in the singles before going down 7-5, 6-1. Austin, the kid he was playing, is turning 13 in Sept and so is four years older, but Marcus did great. I was so proud of him. Marcus really tired in the second set. Austin is very consistent, but does not have a great deal of power and so Marcus was run all over the court. Once Austin grabbed a 3-1 lead in the second set it was over. It rained right before they went on court and became hot and muggy, more like Florida than Montana, I think Marcus was just worn out.
After his singles match it started raining again. They have decided to move the rest of the days matches to MSU to be played indoors. Marcus 12s doubles match has been seriously delayed because of the rain, but Ill give you a report later. It might be a long night, the should have gone on court at 5pm, but as I type this it is 6:40pm.
Thanks Madeline....more good news....he won his 12s singles too.....playing a really good kid in the morning in the 12s who is three years older....I just hope he enjoys that one.
The big match will be in the 10s....I really hope he pulls it off.....as soon as he looked at the draw he thought final at least.....we didn't know anything about this kid and he has great strokes....but Marcus loves a fight and I think he has more power and a better serve....who knows....I just hope Marcus has fun.
