RE: Week 29 - Futures F10 (15K) - Frinton, GB

Bad draw for Evo! But Jones is beatable and hasn't become how good he was supposed to become (made a Challenger final last year).

What's Paire doing?? Playing on grass for one week when there's a Futures in France? confused.gif Nice player, but Milton can beat him on grass.

Good draws for most of our players, I guess.

For a moment I read that as the "LTA has this as on clay" which would not shock me, but the ATP messing this up....wow....lol

6 Brits in round 2, and potentially 2 more with Bradshaw and Evans when the results of those matches come through.

Well done to Illingworth, Rice, Seator, Brewer, Arlidge and Miotto for getting their wins, while Thornley and Corrie came close to upsetting some non-British players as well.

So 6 Brits progress....we could just be left with Ed by the close of play Wednesday unless someone really steps up.

Evo! cry.gif But he should take heart as Jones is quality (why he isn't playing Manchester is a mystery).

'Fraid not:  Evans lost 6-4 1-6 6-7(4), Bradshaw 4 & 3 & Smethurst 4-6 7-5 6-7(6) (close one, that!). cry

On the doubles front, Allinson & Miotto lost 3 & 4, Bradshaw & Brassington 6-7(3) 4-6 (not a good day for either of them! cry ) & Illingworth & Seator (2) 0-6 7-5 [5-10], while Milton & Paire won 6-7(5) 6-1 [10-4], Brewer & Campbell 2 & 3 & Pauffley & Willis 6-4 7-6(2)! hmm  Really pleased for Neil & Marcus. smile clap.gif

The tournament is weird as the top three seeds weren't due to play - two qualifiers and one SE.

Ed should win tomorrow and Rice will have a good chance, too. Others will need to step up.

Presumably as he'd have had to qualify, and so decided that playing the futures event would be a better chance of scoring points.

Tough loss for Evans as he did so well to push him to the 3rd set breaker, and probably would have beaten a lot of players in the draw.

Seator should win tomorrow, but I'd say the other 5 are underdogs, so 1 (or more) of them winning would be great

Whoever said Seator would be the last Brit standing in the singles in Frinton has, sadly, been proved correct:

Michel Koning (NED) bt Matthew Illingworth (GBR) 6-3 6-0 cry

Alexander Sadecky (SUI) bt Alex Miotto (GBR) 6-4 6-2 cry

Edward Seator (GBR) bt Dayne Kelly (AUS) 6-1 6-3 smile

Ludovic Walter (FRA) bt David Brewer (GBR) 3-6 6-3 7-6(5) cry

Benoît Paire (FRA) bt Pablo Martín-Adalia (ESP) 6-2 6-4

Ignacio Coll-Riudavets (ESP) bt Clifford Marsland (AUS) 6-3 4-6 6-1

Shane La Porte (USA) bt David Rice (GBR) 5-7 6-3 6-0 cry

Greg Jones (AUS) bt Burnham Arlidge (GBR) 7-6 (6) 6-2 cry

Shame that it's just Ed left, but probably expected given who everyone was playing, but well done to all 8 seeds for reaching the QF's - doesn't happen that often I don't think

If Brewer took Walter to a 3rd set TB, then surely Ed can go better than that and beat him, and reach the semis here.
