Week 29 - Aptos Challenger [75K] - 2008.

Main draw singles -

Weintraub is very beateble. And given his current form, I won't be shocked Kash Amritraj beats Delic.

Big tourney for Brad Gilbert, by the way. Not just Alex, his son Zachary is also in the main draw.

Baker didn't go for Indy qualies (where he would have been seeded to qualify) so it seems that he's skipping this week totally. confused.gif So weird given this is his time of the year.

Weintraub is a lovely first round draw for Boggo, as he isn't a great tennis player anyway, but has been losing in futures first rounds to players outside the top 700, and has only beaten 2 top 400 players this year.

He can't lose to him, and I think QF's are the minimum to expect from this week for Boggo, where he'll face Delic (who he beat a lot last year) or Amritraj (who off grass is a totally different player, and Boggo should be able to deal with him)

Good chance of another strong week here.

With the 532.... Ward and Skupski would have made it here if they'd chosen to play here ahead of Manchester.... and with only 5 ranked players in qualifying, would have been an easy 2 points for anyone to try and qualify here

This is Amritraj's home event, though (born and brought up Encino, which is in LA), so you can expect him to do well. He reached the semis here last year and won the doubles title in 2006.

Haha, that was a nice gesture! Plus that ensures some support since Zach goes to uni in California and some of his friends may be there.

The distance is a lot, so hopefully he'll have a Wednesday start.

Check out the doubles qualies draw - http://www.atptennis.com/en/common/TrackIt.asp?file=http://www.atptennis.com/1/posting/2008/467/qd.pdf

The person called Kepler is actually the tourney director. rofl.gif So how many times do you get to see the director play in his own tournament?

Which I believe is 22.00 BST.  Could've been worse...! wink  Zach also has his R1 singles match to play at 11.00 local time/19.00 BST on the same court!

'htye' lost the dubs wink.gif 64 62. not really suprised.
alex plays his singles this afternoon, lats singles match scheduled which is nice of the organisers to do, probably brad's influence there, remember cardiff wouldnt delay the matches till wed for alex and tsonga last year.

hopefully he has enough in the tank to see of weintraub and keep winning.

Wow, they are treating Alex as their own, it seems. No wonder it looks like he'll be back for LA. Delic and Kash have split sets and their match will be resumed today.

Sadly Peter Kepler and partner Ackerman lost in qualies (60 60) and Kepler doesn't become possibly the first director to play a main draw match. cry.gif Great sense of humour, though!

Also, a wild card went to a guy called Rick Kepler in doubles. I wonder if all three are related?

Saturday final at Cardiff, so they had to play on the Tuesday or play 2 matches in a day later in the week smile

He should beat Weintraub, and it would be Stoppini in round 2, who has done nothing since he won a couple of futures at the start of the year, and has mainly played on clay, but has a 2-0 record against Boggo, both on a hard court...

i wonder if the courts play slow or fast.

i am glad he has got the dubs out of the way, i didnt really expect much from it but it was a chance for him to get a feel for the conditons, court speed etc wihtout expending too much energy.

hopefully he can bt weintraub, then stopinni, i remember last time he lost to stoppini i was quite suprised. Getting to the QF's would be nice, keep moving upwards would be abput 175.
but 1 match at a time.
