That was bad, very bad. But you can take nothing but positives from the overall campaign - successful qualifiction, win over a top 50 player and then taking a great player like Bartoli to three sets.
If she can reproduce this sort of form on hard courts in Asia, she'll be top 50 later this year, without any doubt.
She will be disappointed with the final result but must now believe that she can compete with the best players in the world. I think we will see her entering a lot more WTA events from now on.
I am sure you don't get to number 15 in the world without learning ways of winning lost matches.
I'd be excited if I was Anne right now. She started very slowly, she served poorly for large parts of the match and yet she was in a strong position deep in the third set through her own excellent play.
And then she discovered that her serve isn't up to the job of finishing a match against a top 30 opponent that has just rediscovered their form. If she can fine-tune her serve so it delivers for her then she can close out this type of match.
She's got weapons that can hurt top 30 opponents. Maybe she knew that already; I didn't.
I was so impressed with the way Anne played, she's improved so much from last year. I was gutted she lost (it seemed worse at 1am after she'd played so well) but this proves she can stay with the big guns and I can see her storming up the rankings and staying there.
