With a Future almost every week in Spain, you won't be surprised to find that it is Spaniards who play the most competitive tennis matches ...

Remember that these don't compare like matches with like, but they show how a player is doing at 'their' level, to some extent, though Challenger-level players dropping down to Futures will do disproportionately well in these figures and vice versa ...
Thanks for the stats Steven, excellent as ever. Although he isn't quite at tour level yet, Somdev Devvarman's record so far this year is excellent [ http://www.itftennis.com/mens/players/activity.asp?player=100011066 ] and reflects a player that will surely break into the Top100 sooner rather than later.
That's pretty impressive. Not only has he won all his Futures singles tournaments this year (one having qualified), each time he's won the doubles as well!
He has played three Futures this year, and has won every single match (both singles and doubles) in them. I think that he doesn't want to rush it and is taking his time (he's doing the Kennedy Funding Invitational this week) or else he would have a chance of getting a direct entry into the Australian Open.
BUT WHERE ON EARTH DID TODD REID COME FROM??? I completely missed the fact that he is playing again - hope it's a proper comeback and not a few events that he is playing for fun.
Looking at Reid's profile, he just played two Futures back in April. So it's unlikely that it's a comeback unless he got injured or something.
I have seen Somdev play a bit (though not anywhere near a full match) and thought that he'd be top 50 or so someday. Sadly he didn't seem to possess anything major, but didn't have a weakness either and his on court movement seemed outrageously good. He'll probably get a wild card into Washington and that could give us a good indication as to where he lies (he likes clay most, though).
Greenleaf: I actually have a couple of v.high quality videos of Somdev from a college tennis match [perhaps the finals? - It is at the same venue as the Dallas Challenger], so if you're interested I could upload them [?]
That would be brilliant (although it'll take me a while to download them with a 256kbps connection). Big thanks!
I don't know which match that is, though... Not one of his NCAA Div I finals - he won this year at Tulsa, beat Isner in Georgia last year and I think lost to Kohlloeffel in Stanford (not sure about the last one). Sadly Kohlloeffel never went pro - could have been a decent player, I guess.
So strange to see Rob Dee somewhere other than at the bottom of the winning percentage table lol

Greenleaf: Here are the two videos, they aren't of massive length but offer a great angle and look at Somdev's strokes and game [hopefully none of the quality has been lost in the process of uploading] - Enjoy.

Saw the videos and they were of great quality. Thanks yet again. I believe that was from the finals of the indoor championships from last year (against Ryan Rowe).
Sort of the same that I thought before. Nothing major but everything is solid.
Yesterday was a huge day for Somdev as he won the Kennedy Funding Invitational.
Round 1: beat Jhonson (no, it's not 'Johnson') Garcia [1134] by 6-3 6-3. Quarters: beat Robert Kendrick [120] by 7-6 7-5. Semis: beat Sam Querrey [44] by 6-2 1-6 7-5. Finals: beat Dudi Sela [76] by 6-2 6-4
For the record, this is not the sort of corporate rubbish like Hurlingham where two guys pretend to play tennis, two more pretend to keep scores, and the glory worshipping audience tucks away and goes "Roger is the best. Go, Roger". There is a lot of prize money at stake (a full 40K for the winner!) and hence most people here will take this as seriously as actual Tour matches, if not more, given that they rarely get the chance to win this much. Surface was Har Tru, I think.
And Somdev did all this right after winning two singles and two doubles titles (18 matches) in two weeks. Can't wait for win to play (and win) Challengers but he'll take a week off now from what I can find.
