A few pics from Wimby day 3

Here are just a few pics and comments from the four main matches I saw on Wednesday before it got too dark to think about taking any more photos, since if I don't do anything with them now, I probably never will. I still have a blog from day 2 at Queen's to do too, but that'll have to wait until we have a lean period after Wimbledon!

I've got some pics of the Fed and Ancic matches too (see full blog on AM.com), but I'll just leave the pics of the Brits here (which unfortunately means the pics with too much light and those with too little!) so as not to confuse a certain mod winkbiggrin

EATON & SLABBA v the BRYANS

I nipped out of the Fed match for a little while to catch Chris & Alex playing the Bryans on Court 19, which was standing room only, and that's to put it mildly.

Unfortunately, the sun was too bright (and at the perfectly wrong angle) for these pics to come out at all good, but here's Slabba serving ...

... and here are the two of them conferring:

Unfortunately, I was in the wrong place to get any pics of Chris serving (and he only had a couple more serves to do when I got there shortly before the match ended, so I couldn't get to a good vantage point quick enough), but it was very impressive!

BLOOMERS & SKUPSKI

Richard and Ken had been doing quite well against the seeded pair they were playing against (1 set all but 2-4 down in the 3rd) when play had been suspended the previous day and it seemed a bit unfair that they'd been put 5th on the OoP for Wednesday, when 'to finish' matches are usually put on 2nd.

They continued to hold their own, but couldn't quite get the break back in the 3rd and didn't take their chances to break back after they had gone a break down in the 4th, but it wasn't a bad performance. The other pair were just a bit more solid in all aspects of their game (though they had an odd tactic of hitting all the volleys at Richard, who was by far the better volleyer of the Brits) and the Brits were undone by Richard's somewhat weak groundstrokes and Ken's serving and volleying looking just a bit below the level of the other players on court (as you might expect at the moment from his ranking) - he also seemed to be at a bit of a height disadvantage compared to the other three too.

I'd actually hoped to get some pics of Ken, since I hadn't seem him play before, but he wasn't serving from the end I was at and seemed to always be at the net when the Brits were up at my end of the court, so this is the best I could do:

It was already getting pretty dark by this time, which produced either my worst pic of the day or a brilliant timelapse picture of Bloomers serving (I'm going for the latter, but you can take your pick!) ...

The Bloomers picture shows he is now using a patella tendon support band on his left knee. Yes Steven - very artistic pic.
