RE: Week 27 - Cordoba Challenger [100K+H] - 2008.

Main draw is out... and as we are being hopeful with Ward's progress he could face:

Sam Groth
Sergei Bubka Jr. (almost forgot the junior and so the Pole Vaulter WR holder would have been playing instead)
Paolo Lorenzi
Pablo Santos-Gonzalez

Bubka, and PSG would be the best draws, although don't know a lot about Lorenzi, and Groth does appear to be a huge serve, with not a lot else.

Good draws on the whole then for the qualifiers, but Ward just needs to make it (and to be honest, I'd be happy with the 3 points for him qualifying this week)

Cut here was 327, with PSG being the last man in.... Slabba was 1 ahead of him in the alternate list, so clearly did make the cut in Ireland as if he hadn't, he would have been playing here in the main draw.

Not a good start to the week, James won't even get to play Klein. I didn't see this coming ...

QR2: (q8) James Ward WR 476 lost to Pablo Martin-Adalia WR 634 by 6-4 7-6(-) bleh

This, remember, is a player James thrashed 1 & 3 just over a year ago.

Very disappointing loss from Ward there which is very difficult to explain - he seems to have a lot of talent but doesn't put the results together at all, and this is a match that he should simply not be losing

Not good and no excuses, of course. But I'm sure that this is a one off and he'll do well next time.

Who knows where 'next time' is, though! confused.gif Newport? Ramat Hasharon? Granby?

I think James is playing Ramat Hasharon then heading to the States

bit disappointing after that grass season run but its quite a switch to the hard plus although he's capable of challenging top 100 players on his day, James is still trying to find that match-in, match-out consistency........played stunning tennis to beat Klein at Surbiton and then went down 3 gears the next day and lost in 3 to Eaton......though that doesn't seem quite so surprising now !
