Pavel Chekhov (Rus) bt Daniel Smethurst (Gbr) 6-4 6-4,
go bam bam hopefully he'll get the last manchester wild card now?
Great win for Bamford, but I do wonder how much Goodall wanted to get to Manchester though, but even so, Bamford must be happy at winning that and a good chance of decent points this week.
Guess the final Manchester WC will be between Bamford and Skupski, but I guess if Bamford wins another round he may get it, leaving Skupski to hopefully make it through qualifying

Surely Josh doesn't need to get to Manchester until Monday! Just a good win by Neil
yeah cant see josh tanking the match, like mjd says he probably wont need to play manchester till monday, could event request tuesday, and is playing on the right surface. a rd 2 loss is worth 1pt isnt it? not going to do much for his ranking, but winnign the event would have, no gartunee of a kinda draw in manchester. (and this loss will hurt and ideas he had about DC surely, could you see boggo or baker losing this match on grass)
on the face of it good play by bambam i have to say (unless we later find hosh is injured etc)

Probably, but maybe he was just fed up of waiting around when he's not going to gain many points anyway.
Hope it's just a great performance by Neil though and he can go on and have a great week here
Jonny. Still, the positive is that he'll be fresh for the Challenger (I don't believe in tanks without proof, by the way) where as many of the players are involved in this.

Well done to Bam Bam.
I dont for a minute think any of the British guys were tanking, however when you've been stood watching the rain for three or four days and there is the prospect of loads more rain ahead of you, and no guarantee the event (and the 18 points ) will ever get finished, there must be a temptation to let your mind wander, and if you are up against a more motivated player on the day then its easy to see why there are some results that defy expectations.
Also both bamford and Klein are pretty decent fast court players so a bit of an off day and you're going to get beat.
I know from Jonny's point of view he's been pretty fed up down there, played pretty poor on Thursday and got away with it, did the same today and didn't, that's all.
For the record, Watling won't be able to take the wild card that he's probably a shoe in for in Frinton. Unless he has missed the flight because of the rain delay/has had a change of plans, he will go to South Africa for two Grade 2s from the 16th.
