Some nice play by Chris but Tursunov holds to 30 to lead 3-1. I'm enjoying watching this. Chris has some big deficiencies yet has some genuine weapons that keep him in the game - this is good because it suggests a lot of room for improvement.
Twoveg does well to get to break point but Tursunov comes good again to hold for 4-2. Impressive how many of Tursunov's service games Chris has got into.
Shame I didn't get to see it....ESPN were showing the Roddick match as you'd expect, but I wish I had seen a little of Chris' match....hopefully he will do well in Newport.
Yes, really hope he makes it to Newport. We shouldn't overhype him. As Imoen said, there was a massive gulf in class. I didn't see the matches where he was firing 30/40 aces but on the basis of today's performance I struggle to see him beating a top 100 player who's comfortable on grass. But loads of room for improvement in the future and that serve's a great asset.
Not a bad showing for someone who the LTA would not have allowed into qualifying had it not been for withdrawals for Nottingham. Great week Chris.
This proves to me that the LTA are wrong to make such strict rulings for WCs for British players because given half a chance anything can happen and this could be the beginning of great things for Chris - the man who shouldn't have been there.
Ahhh what a good game. He fully deserved to nick a set at the very least but Tursunov can play spectacularly when he wants to and did enough at the right time, especially at deuce on his own serve.
I hope this is a good springboard for Chris and I hope he manages to improve his ranking so that he can earn himself a place here next year. Let us watch him (like he's one of our many tennis children) and see him grow and fluorish...
I'm probably being naive here, but isn't Chris's tennis good enough for him to be playing Challengers? Wouldn't he be offered wildcards to some after his showing here? As I say, I'm probably being naive.
Well done to him by the way. I really liked how he never gave up trying, and even near the end of the 3rd set, when he had a break point, you could see he still believed something was possible. I really hope he pushes on and has the right people around him to give him the best advice.
Certainly looked like he might be able to compete at challenger level, the question that we will discover the answer to over the coming months is: was this his spring board to a serious career or a glorious evening in the sun, never to be repeated.
Before his entry to the tournament that he should never have been at as MJD so rightly says, he was #661 in the world.
And he was #661 for a reason, and that isnt because he normally fires down 30 odd aces a match, now he has to take that level with him to the challenger level and see if the confidence he has gained can propel him up the rankings.
I feel he really has to kick on rapidly now or the momentum will be lost I'd be doing a lot of challenger qualifying and see if he can carry on playing at this level on sympathetic courts. If he can convince himself that he belongs here, and Ive been very impressed with his belief, then it could be an exciting few months for him, and god knows we could do with a boost.
i very much doubt he will get wc's at any challengers other manchester if he wants to play there, and maybe jersy at the end of the year. cant see any other countries giving him wc's on the back of 1 slam win and looking beyond the grass i dont think his futures perfromances have been great. we all knew pash was a great draw, he played great and took his chance well, but i dont think we should get too ahead of ourselves just yet.

I think Chris played like a top 200 player on grass, but my guess is that he's only top 600 on hard and indoor and probably outside the top 1000 on clay.
