However don't want to seem cruel but did anyone else think Naomi looked to be carrying a little too much weight around the middle. Maybe her fitness needs to worked a little harder upon as if she is to make it to the top 100 then you need to be in tip top condition. Just think this is a key area to work on as it might help her speed around the court.
You're not the only one. Just listening to Nick Bolletieri on the radio. He made a plea for Cavaday to lose a few pounds - said only Serena could get away with being overweight at the top level!
Shame about Katie, but 2 out of 5 isn't bad. Especially when the three which lost played seeds and were competitive with seeds. Especially Mel and Naomi.
It's great to see Elena and Anne as the ones to prevail as they have been Women's tennis' great hopes for so long now and injuries (esp Elena) have made it tough. Both have played great in the ITFs this year and I hope they can make the transition from ITFs to WTA tournaments. They have the talent. From what i'd heard about anne (due to the few matches she played) I've always thought of her as a passive defensive player but after today, I realise that she has big weapons herself. Esp that forehand. I love watching her hit it inside out although not as good as the amazing Tatiana Golovin's inside-out forehand, it's pretty good. She's definatly capable of making the top 75 soon but let's see if her head will take her any further. One thing's for sure, though. This is going to give her so much confidence in the tournaments coming up.
Oh, and as things stand, Anne is 80th, Elena 133rd, Katie and Mel 150 and 151, and Naomi 191.

Overall a pretty good couple of days for both the men (very impressed with Chris Eaton's serve) and the women. There were only 2 women's matches with realistic likelihood of wins, and both were taken. Naomi and Mel's attitudes were very impressive. Katie's collapse was disappointing but I think a drop to a realistic ranking of 150 - 160 will help her in the long run. Katie has improved since last year, and her high ranking has helped Anne, but she now needs to improve her game further, particularly her fragile serve, so she can beat players in or around 100. That will be easier to do out of the limelight as British number 3 or 4 - hopefully Bally can take over from her in pushing Anne.
