Fantastic to see Anne get that win and to know that the points should move her up into the 80's. A nice reward for having made it into the top 100 and being a DA into the event. Does anyone else agree that this is yet another positive step forward on the women's side this year. If Anee can keep that ranking up then maybe she can get DA into the US open as another reward. This can only be good for the Brit's.
Well done Anne! This means Britain has now equalled last year's win total of 2. Last year only O'Brien and Henman won one match each, this year we have Baltacha and Keothavong into 2nd round and still got 4 players to come.
Anyone else think the fact that Anne was a DA this year maybe took a little pressure off her? We all know the stick that wildcards get when they lose. This year she must have really felt she deserved to be there and was a lot more comfortable.

i defianlty think being a DA helps from a pressure point of view in almost all cases, but espcially whne in the past you havtn had a great experience at the event.
and especialy extra at wimby given how much stick the media give our players when they lose.

That Anne win was so pleasing. She was thumping forehand winners left, right and center near the end. Hopefully that will help her when she plays Venus. I love Venus but i'd like to see Anne challenge her. I've never thought of Anne as a player with any big weapons but she proved me wrong today. Hopefully she'll play Venus on CC because I have CC tix for thusday!!
Oh and well played to Mel and Naomi. They both did us so proud and it's great to see the talk of the Brit women's improvement backed up with some evidence.

Oh, and im guessing she's likely to be DA in USO? I mean with this win she's defended her points from Lexington and Vancouver and the next time she has to defend a high amount of points is (yes, you've got it!) Kolkata. The US Open hardcourts are her favourite courts I think, so that would be great.

That was bad from Katie. She'll drop to around the 150 mark which i think mis lower than her standard but she'll climb back up on a more steady path this time.
Well, not a bad day overall. And the beeb are even being nice about British women's tennis. They had three seeds to play and two others, and won the two others (and weren't at all embarassed by the seeds). They all looked GS competitive, which is great given four of them were WCs.
Good to see Anne capitalize on what was the nicest draw any of the women managed. And good to see Naomi not being overawed. Shame about those last seven games for Katie...
Anne is different from the other UK top women-less brute force strength (though no slouch) and a bit more precision. I enjoyed her game.
