Baltacha and South in the top half, the other 3 in the bottom half, so Monday for Baltacha and South, and Tuesday for the other 3.
At least Cavaday's going to be on centre court, but she's getting thrashed. Anne should win, but then she'd have Venus in round 2 so won't get any further.
Mel and Katie have tough draws at will struggle to win as well, while Baltacha's going to have a toughish match as well.
Think we'll do well to get 2 in the second round, unlike the men who have been given a lovely draw
Anne and Bally have the best chances of winning but having said that Katie's got Peer who is really on a slump right now and Mel's got Bondarenko who has been patchy at best this season. It's doable.
Anne should be King who isn't as comfortable on grass. Bally has a toughish draw but she can't let these chances pass. Same with Katie who has a chance to get a good win against a seeded player is she just keeps her head! Mel's draw could of been worse but she'll need to play her best. As for Naomi, another year, another Wimbledon, another seed. Obviously she'll do well just to keep the score respectable but if Venus is spraying errors and Naomi gets the crowd behind her we might see an upset. Something tells me we won't though! LOL!
Indeed Anne, Bally and Katie seem to be in with a shout. Peer has been struggling this year and has only played one match on grass so far which was a straight sets loss to Petrova at Eastbourne. Bally has drawn Kerber who made round two of Birmingham. Mel and Naomi have just got to hope that their opponent are well below their bests and play flawless tennis....
Anne has the best draw, deserves a good one after getting Jankovic last year. King won their only previous match 6-2, 7-6 at the 2006 Aussie Open but she lost to Katie at the NTC a couple of weeks ago and didn't look anything special....decent counter-puncher but Anne's weight of shot should be too much
Bally also has a great chance, she always plays like she's top 50 at Wimbledon....remember how close she was to beating Srebotnik last year. Kerber's only ranked 125....hasn't been having a great year, lost 4 & 2 to Naomi in Jan..........Cjubulkova's the projected round 2 seed which could be a lot, lot worse....who knows, could be 2002 all over again
Given Mel's form atm she may have half a chance of getting a set as Bondarenko seems to be at her best on clay.....however she can certainly play on grass, made round 3 here last year and nearly beat Schynder.....also made Birmingham quarters
Nothing really to say about Naomi's draw apart from "ouch".....unfortunately for her she's not in best form either by some way after all the injuries this year......hopefully she can make it competitive.....should be a good experience for her
Grass is quite a good surface for Peer, last yr she made the Eastbourne quarters and 3rd round at SW19 before losing to Bartoli. This is a good time to play her, she's lost 3 straight matches and strangely opted for a tier 4 on Spanish clay last week
