Have we ever had so many players at career high?

We've had 9 GB women hit new singles career highs on the same day at least twice in the last 3 years (26 Oct 2009 & 25 Jul 2011) and the highest number of GB women hitting new career highs in a single year was 26 in 2009, c.f. 23 in 2010 and 20 so far this year.

The tables haved now been updated with the 24 October 2011 rankings.

5 Brits have edged up to new singles career highs - Naomi Broady at 203, Samantha Murray 464, Lucy Brown 558, Nik Slater 650 & Fran Stephenson 657. Unfortunately, Naomi has Glasgow 2010 SF points coming off next Monday so another tilt at the top 200 will fall just short unless she has a storming week in Barnstaple.

5 new doubles CHs include two in the top 500, Samantha Murray at 289 and Lisa Whybourn at 415.

Heather is the new GB no. 1 in doubles - she goes back up to her CH of 167 but the main reason is Anne dropping back a bit.

A more intriguing contest is the one for year-end GB no. 2. In the rankings, Heather (still at her CH of 87) is still ahead of Anne (up 2 to 91) but Hev has more points still to come off (her Toronto 50K win due off on 7 Nov) so Anne leads the race by 21 points, 728 to 707.

A question here for you experts out there. I was looking on BBC teletext page for British women WTA tour rankings for 31 Oct

and was wondering...........why have they left out Emily W-S ? Is she ignored for a reason or is it yet another ahem! dare I say it.......mistake!

Very careless missing out Emily, GB No 6, on Ceefax, and they have also missed out Katie O'Brien ( who may have retired but is still ranked GB No 9 ) and also Lisa Whybourn, GB No 11, going down as far as GB No 13, Jade Windley but only listing 10 names and world ranking positions.

Looking at these ranking pages every so often, they have always seemed to me perfectly OK, so who knows what's gone wrong re the Gb Women this week.  The GB men info ( top 9 ) is fine.

I know - Naomi has been ridiculously unlucky in her quest to make the top 200 - a few weeks ago, she looked to be in by a few points (based on the points needed for WR 200 the previous week) only for freakish upwards bias in the moves around that level to deny her by a few places and now, having again amassed enough points to get in based on the previous week's rankings, she misses out on the year-end (as defined by the WTA) top 200 by a single point. cry

Still, it is now confirmed that:

- with Elena staying at WR 50, there is a Brit in the WTA year-end top 50 for the first time since Anne Hobbs in 1987

- with Anne jumping 10 more places to WR 73, there are 2 Brits in the WTA year-end top 75 for the first time since Jo Durie (60) and Monique Javer (coincidentally 73) in 1992 - when Hev was 6 months old and the WTA top 5 were Seles, Graf, Sabatini, Arantxa and Martina (now that's what I call a top 5! LOL)

- with Heather only falling 3 places to WR 92 as her Toronto points come off, there are 3 Brits in the WTA year-end top 100 for the second time in 3 years

In addition, GB numbers 4, 5 & 6 have all hit new career highs today - Laura at 131, Naomi at 201 (see above) and Emily at 240 (she has now more than halved her ranking since the start of 2011), and there are also new CHs in the top 1000 for Tara at 332, Samantha Murray at 447 (having been unranked at the start of 2011) and Eleanor Dean at 774.

After those very near misses, I had a hunch Naomi Broady might break into the top 200 when we least expected it, and so it has turned out - Cagla Buyukakcay had some points coming off today and they were enough to drop her behind Naomi, who has therefore moved up 1 to WR 200 in the one week where she isn't adding any points! The Opole 25K points will go on next Monday, of course.

There are also new career highs for Tara Moore, up 11 to 321, Samantha Murray up 2 to 445 (also hitting a doubles career high of 279) & Eleanor Dean, up 54 to 720 (also hitting a doubles career high of 735.

I've been neglecting this thread for months (and probably will do again) but there are so many big changes today, it seems worth posting.

First of all, Anne moves up 5 to WR 76 and becomes GB no. 1 for the first time since Nov 2009 (when she was injured and had been unable to defend any points for 4 months) - by a rather sad coincidence, the player who first dislodged her back then, Katie, is one of 6 Brits to leave the WTA singles rankings today.

This leaves us with just 27 women in the rankings, but that will go back up to 32 next Monday when one of the six leavers (Aimee Gibson) will rejoin the rankings after winning a round in qualifying in Nottingham at the weekend and the 4 QWCs in Birmingham (who get a point just for playing quaifying because it is a main tour event and all had 2 counters beforehand) will join/rejoin the rankings too.

Her latest 132-week run as GB no. 1 may be over for now but Bally (now WR 91) extends her run in the top 100 to 142 weeks in a row since she first broke into the top 100 in autumn 2009, easily the longest top 100 streak by a British woman since before Laura was born! She will probably need to score points this week to extend her stay in the top 100 any further though.

It's amazing to think that apart from a few weeks (certainly 3 weeks when Katie was the top Brit, maybe more weeks I have forgotten but not many), Bally, who first became GB no. 1 in 2002, and Anne (2003) have shared the top Brit slot between them for almost a decade.

There are new singles career highs for Laura, up 12 to 114, Fran, up 24 to 528, Robyn Beddow, up 22 to 950, and Harriet Dart, up 21 to 1007, and the biggest riser is Lisa, up 141 to WR 409 after a good few weeks. There is a general upward bias in the ranking moves this week for those who have stayed on the same number of points because due to a timing difference, 2 weeks of tournaments are going on the rankings and 3 are coming off today, the opposite of what happened just before RG.

7 new GB doubles career highs are headed by Heather at 131 and Samantha at 230.

Finally, JoKo is now showing up as GB on the WTA list. Overtaking Naomi today, she is the new GB no. 5 at WR 214. As with Hev and Laura at GB 3/4, few points separate Jo and Naomi for GB 5/6, so it would be great to see them leapfrogging each other upwards too (hopefully deep into the top 200) over the next few months!

Does Fran Stephenson get a point, even though she failed to get beyond the first round of qualies in B'ham, Emma and Jessica Ren did, according to the table.

Yes - in fact, that correction was the last thing I did before uploading the table and coming on the forum to check I hadn't missed anything.

Quite a momentous new ranking list as far as the GB women are concerned, with Heather confirmed as GB no. 1 in both singles (up 8 to 71) and doubles (up 27 into the top 100 for the first time at 81), Laura jumping back into the top 100 (up 22 to a new career high 91) and Bally hanging on in the top 100 (just!), giving GB 4 women in the WTA singles top 100 for thefirst time in 2 decades ... and 5 players in the ATP & WTA singles top 100s combined for the first time in about a quarter of a century!

Anne is back in the top 100 for doubles too, so GB now has 5 players in the singles top 100s and 10 in the doubles top 100s.

When I try to click on the table (using the link in the first post on this thread) I get this:

http://www.shareasale.com/notactive.html?389818

Been happening for the last few days. Previously it would always produce the Top 25 table. Any suggestions ?

No idea - just freewebs being its usual bizarre self. no The britishtennis.net links work, as insomniacfolder says, so I have amended the links in the first post of this thread (something I should have done previously anyway) but the weird thing is, the britishtennis.net links effectively point to the freewebs pages, so if the freewebs pages don't work, the britishtennis.net pages shouldn't work either. Still, I'm not complaining if they do work smile it's just very strange!

Urgent work (and the need to get at least some sleep) has been getting in the way of getting the last few women's T25 tables done all week. There's still lots of work to be done this weekend, but I should get some more chances to catch up with the tables than I have the last few days.
