RE: British Women - top 10 table

The only time I have seen it take more than a week for the $10K &$25K points to be added on is when it would fall on a date when the rankings are not updated eg in the middle of a Grand Slam fortnight.

Ok, that's the YTD figures added to http://www.britishtennis.net/gbtop25f/currentf.htm thanks to the Hoose smile.gif (I've got them and all the other figures for the whole of the top 25 now)

Still outstanding

So, maybe some of the women's tennis experts on here could tell me (by answering in this thread) if there are women's equivalents of:

A) the best N page for the men, e.g. http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/playerprofiles/pointsbreakdown.asp?player=MC10&ss=y - i.e. I'd like to be able to get hold of points to defend data without having to trawl through the activity tab on the WTA or ITF sites trying to work out which tournaments are counting for each player at any given time still to find

B) a page with links to pdfs for all the current tournaments, like the men's page at http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/tournaments/challenger/ - it helps a lot if all the results links can be in the same format, e.g. for the men I use http://www.atptennis.com/1/posting/2008/"&AQ12&"/"&AR12&".pdf where AQ12 is the tournament number and AR12 is mds for a main draw sheet, qs for a qualifying sheet and op for the OoP, these things then being the only things I need to input - I'd prefer not to have to link to ITF draws because the ITF doesn't have OoPs, and tenniseurope isn't really good enough because it doesn't cover all of the tournaments still to find

C) linked to this, it would be great if there was a results source where the URLs for ITF tournaments were in the same format as the URLs for WTA tournaments, which is true of the draws on the ATP site (if this is asking too much, then if there's a standard format for all ITFs and a standard format for all WTAs, I can always set a WTA/ITF 'switch' field that sets the URL format, so that's not a big problem as long as there is somewhere where the format of the URLs for all of the ITF draws are the same, otherwise it'll get really fiddly!) still to find

D) The URL of each player's own website, if they have one (I know Mel South has one and Sarah Borwell does blogs on a site, so that would count) and whether it gets regularly updated (like the O's on the men's table) or not (like the o's) still outstanding

E) Me - upgrading it to the top 25 still outstanding

Yes, those are the obvious ones, and I'd use them to actually find results, but I wish I could find a site that covered the WTA & ITF events with the draw URLs in the same format for both like the ATP draws.

Also, the ITF site doesn't have OoPs and the TE site doesn't have tournaments outside Europe, making it all a bit of a mishmash.

That looked good smile.gif ... but again we're stuck with there being no OoPs on the ITF site cry and they also have that annoying way of only showing a round at a time on the draw page. cry They do have printable draws, but the Eastbourne one doesn't have any of yesterday's results on it, which is a bit rubbish! cry

Maybe (i.e. unless anyone knows of anything better and mentions it in the next couple of days) I should cut my losses, set up a new field that holds W for "use WTA sheet", E for "use TE sheet" and I for "use ITF sheet and don't link to an OoP", use the best available of those for each tournament then input the existing tournament number field for the ITF tournament code, the WTA tournament name or the TE tournament name depending on what the W/E/I flag has been set to.

Talking of which, it's a bit ominous that people have been so quiet on the subject of easy to use best 17 lists ... even with the easy to use ATP lists, this is the hardest bit of the whole men's table. confused

I'm beginning to remember why I put off setting up the women's table for so long ... LOL

For best 17 results you could try this http://vlmark.webpark.sk/

It doesn't show you what the next best score will be, when an existing best 17 score needs replacing but it's a guide(and quick at that to the current best 17.

Thanks, Abc - not perfect as you say, but the best version I've seen of this for the women by far.

I can get the 18th best scores from one of the links that DJ posted and hopefully they won't change that often (though I imagine that more of the women than the men have 17 scores because of scoring for Challenger-level qualifying rounds and still getting a point for losing in R1 in some events.

Anyway (again unless anyone comes up with something better) I'll give this a go and we'll see if I start predicting the end of week ranking points correctly - expect far more errors than on the men's table, especially in the next few weeks, but hopefully with a few people spotting errors, I'll soon start to get there!

I can't believe how far this has come in about 12 hours! smile.gif

Thanks to everyone's help, http://www.britishtennis.net/gbtop25f/currentf.htm has quickly become a GB women's top 15 table with all the relevant PTD details now on it as well - hope you like it smile.gif

Please don't hesitate to point out mistakes, especially at this early stage. I'll add GB 16-25 when I get the chance.

RE: British Women - top 15 table

Steven, I continue to be stunned by the amount of information you provide us with, ably assisted by others. This will be another excellent feature of the site that will be appreciated by many. Those journalists will have to start paying you soon wink

Steven, could you check the 2008 change in ranking for Anne Keothavong. I make it +39 rather than +29 ie from 132 to 93.

Thanks Peter, it was wrong. Either a Hoose typo (goodness knows, he deserves to be forgiven a few given how fast he got the figures to me! smile.gif) or possibly he was using a slightly different source - I've run down the rest of the top 10 and they're all correct.

I'd be quite surprised (though quite happy) if any of them use those tables, but hopefully quite a few fans do. It would be fascinating to know how many do - possibly more than it appears, because I set up a poll on the Rusedski board once when I was wondering if it was still worth doing it there and over 40 people voted, when I wasn't even aware that there were 40+ people looking at that board each day in the first place!

To be honest though, I'd probably be keeping that spreadsheet (in a bit of a messier form, of course) for my own use even if nobody else was interested in it at all.

well done that man clap.gif
the table in itself isnt too much interest to me, but i am astounded by the effort you put in on a fan basis.
ideayou ever want to hlep with my website just say aww

Steven -> pc.gif

the lta should employ you to help with their sutff, but then i guess you would become upproductive and only do rankings etc for players whose name begins in M and ends in urray.
