This means that Amanda will have almost halved her ranking in the first 6 months of this year. At this rate she could be sub 200 by the end of the year.

I haven't had a chance to look in detail yet, but if Anne is in the top 100 with less points than a man would need to get into the top 100, yet the women get 15 points for winning Wimby QR1 whereas the men get 4 (the men only get 15 if they actually qualify), the women's points must be weighted completely differently. (?)

The points system is very different in the women's game. 60 points for a 1st round win in a slam (330 will get you into top 100). 15 points for winning 1 round in qualies, 25 points for winning 2 rounds and I think 31 points in total for qualifying.

Really it is amazing that Anne broke into the top 100 without a win at Wimbledon. The typical route is get through qualifying then win your first round match and you've earned yourself 91 points which is more than 25% of the total you need in the year. In the men's you'd get 50 I think, which is less than 12.5% of the total you need to break into the top 100.

As for Amanda Elliott I think she might get close to 250 by the end of the year.  Would probably need to win at least one more round of Wim qualies if she is to make 200. Though it has to be said that those Australian challengers at the end of the year are a great opportunity for anyone who wants to rise up the rankings.

As far as I can make out Amanda collected about 11 points in Aug - Dec last year and about 56 points from Jan - Jun this year including Wimby. She will need another 86 points to get to 200 plus the 11 she loses from last year.

I'm pleased for Amanda, as she has consistently been playing above her ranking this year and deserves some extra points to reflect this. It may be a blessing in disguise on the other hand for Fitzy , who has stagnated for the last year and needs to rebuild after losing her 15 points.

Next round will be tough for Amanda, as she was hammered by Kostanic Tosic in Zagreb, and therefore does not have the advantage of being unknown - which often helps the underdog. On the other hand it is possible I suppose that the Croatian might be lulled into a false sense of security.

Tremendous debut by Tara, particularly as she was battling a shoulder injury as well as a strong opponent.

Both Anna and Amanda are on at 11am tomorrow

The words 'clutching' and 'straws' come to mind! wink Hope you're right though!

Chuffed again for Amanda...I noticed she was a break down early and thought she would go the way of the rest of the girls except for Anna of course...very pleased to see she turned it around.
