20th now, but I have lost my finalist (Roddick) and Nadal is still there, so I have a false position, really. cry.gif

Now I need Nadal out as fast as possible.

Somehow still in the top 20, probably thanks to GGL's magical comeback that was criminally ignored by the BBC while Eaton was playing and Roddick was going out, but I doubt I'm staying there tomorrow with only 4 winners (Fed, Baggy, Ferrer, Berdych).

At least PHM is still there and hoping to the reach the QF's for me...

Tipsarevic
Tursunov
Garcia-Lopez
Schuttler
Mathieu
Cilic
Melzer
Clement

Anyone have any of these down as a SF..... cos one of them will be?

Why could Muzza have been in this quarter of the draw?

I think it will be a Tipsy/Tursunov vs. Mathieu/Cilic QF, and I'd back Tursunov to reach the semis at the moment, but who knows to be honest, and I'd like it to be Clement or Melzer to make it as they have the most watchable games.

Federer/Nadal final looks pretty secure at the moment, but all that is needed is one of them to go out and we are getting to Wimbledon 2002 levels of ridiculousness (if only there was a Pick'em back then.... no-one would have got half marks)

That said.... Wimbledon 2002 is one of the greatest Grand Slams ever just because of how random it was (as was all of 2002 to be honest with Tojo winning in Australia, the Gaudio/Coria final in France, and Sampras in the US Open (if only Greg had beaten him, as I think he'd have won the title otherwise))

I can't stand you either, Count! wink No reason ... evileye

Actually, no, that should be I can't UNDERstand you - why the moaning? You went up 120 places today to 100=. Still, not as bad as Pebs on CC, who was today's highest climber and was still having a good whinge! furious

DAY 4 / END OF R2 REPORT

I saw some statistical analysis before the tournament that concluded that virtually all the shocks at Wimbledon over the years have occurred in the middle two quarters and I am beginning to wish that I had taken it more seriously, because the middle two quarters are looking like a disaster zone for the seeds at the moment.

The Muppet Show was invented in America, and a couple of Americans certainly starred in it today. First James "only the crumbliest, flakiest choker" Flake showed what an expert he is at (choking in) 5-setters by going down to, of all people, Rainer Schuettler, then Duckboy quacked against Tipsy.

Since 80% of us picked him to waddle his way into the semis, as with Nole this result is likely to be good for you if you had Roddick going out in the QFs or earlier, fairly neutral if you were one of the majority and bad if you thought he would make it to the Final.

The Duckboy/Flake section now has nobody left in it who was picked by more than 2% to reach the QFs, while the highest of the two seeds left in the third quarter is Paul-Henri Chokieu! And you thought the 2nd quarter looked bad!

TEAMS LEAGUE

There was lots of movement in the teams league today, with Centre Court ending R2 back at the top, AM.com moving up another place to 2nd spot and the Feddies, who are clearly doing far better in the top half of the draw than in the bottom half, dropping from 1st to 3rd, continuing their yo-yo motion between those two positions.

BT.net had a very good day and ended up winning R2, moving up 2 to 4th overall and swapping places with MTF, down 2 to 6th, with Rusedski.co.uk remaining between them in 5th place.

TAT are now middle of the table in 7th place, having gone up two places every day since finishing day 1 at the bottom of the pile, which is where the Ducklings now lie after a bad day for US tennis.

INDIVIDUALS

Joint R1 winner d_s (MT) lost the lead early on in the day but moved back to the top of the table right at the end of R2, ahead (on tiebreak) of MaryS (AR), who moved up 4 to 2nd after coming joint top in R2 with 22/32 correct. One of the other joint R1 winners, Duchess (CC), completes the top three, dropping just one place today.

The other joint R2 winner was Fitz (JM), who shoots up 52 places to 5th as a result. He is the best placed of the seven entrants who got 12/16 correct today.

MOVERS

The fastest climber today was another of the magnificent seven who got 12/16 correct - Flintstone (CC), up 184 to 68=. A number of players rose more than 100 places, with day 4 seeing a lot more big moves than day 3 did.

The biggest faller was Boarder35m (MT), down 225 to 332nd with 5/16 correct, the equal lowest score on day 4, while Azarielle (RG), level at 407th, had the lowest score for R2 as a whole, with 9/32 correct.

OUTLOOK

There could be some very big moves in R3 and beyond, because the correlation between peoples' positions at the end of R2 and how many of their R3 winners have survived R2 is unusually low.

Those with the most survivors, 12, are spread nearly all the way down the table, with MaryS (AR) in 2nd place and JamieL (AM), down 11 to 68=, the only two of them who are in the top 150 - and they have both lost their champion picks, Duckboy and Nole respectively!

After them, you have to go all the way down to EKGuy39 (AM), up 13 to 183= today, Fishflaps (CC), down 45 to 222=, and RoastLamb (AM), down 31 to 316=, to find the other three entrants with 12 potential R3 winners left. Conversely, last placed Ridomi (AR) has just four players left.

TEAM KO

The last 16 round of the team KO had a lot more close matches than the same competition at RG, with no. 1 seeds Centre Court prevailing over bottom seeds the Ducklings despite having been slightly behind at the halfway stage, thus setting up a rematch of the RG QF where they edged out BT.net, who will be out for revenge.

No. 4 seeds AM.com came from behind as well to take out T4Y and set up a dream QF clash with JM.org (who beat no. 5 seeds LleytonHewitt.biz) - sibling rivalry at its best! In fact, the first two QFs contain nothing but GB-based teams!

In the bottom half of the draw, TAT came from behind (as they are wont to do) to beat no. 3 seeds the Feddies and will now face no. 6 seeds Rusedski.co.uk, who completed a convincing win over the Dammitaires, while Tennisopolis.com edged out no. 2 seeds MTF and will take on no. 7 seeds the RafaelNadalFans combo team.

The line-up for Friday, with pick %s for all teams combined:

1st on CC: Federer 100% v Gicquel (nobody, as opposed to 0% which means 1 or 2 entrants)
1st on C1: Hewitt 71% v Bolelli 0%

2nd on C2: Berdbrain 62% v Verdasco 12%

3rd on CC: Pics 51% v Ancic 43% - pick 'em match of the day by far
3rd on C1: Safin 2% v Seppi 0% - Nole was the top pick here
3rd on C2: Baggy 38% v Stadler (nobody) - Big Ivo was the top pick here
3rd on C11: Wawrinka 61% v Zverev (nobody)
3rd on C18: Lopez 13% v Reynolds 0% - Numpty was the top pick here

Amazingly, there are six matches in which one of the players has been picked to win by less than 3 of the 409 entrants, and in half of those cases, that player has not been picked to win by anyone!

Remember that if you don't have either player in the match, the one with the lower % winning will normally be the best damage limitation result for you - perfect damage limitation if they were picked to win by nobody at all.

Good luck Federer, Hewitt, Berdbrain (?), Super Mario, Stadler, Zverev & Lopez.

Like a lot of people I will be rooting for Stadler & Zverev to cover my damages, hopefully Lopez winning would cover it if they don't upset the odds. I can see Verdasco beating Berdbrain, my extreme hating of Verdasco means I never pick him. Bolelli could beat a dodgy looking Hewitt which would be disaster, but I can't see Ancic losing to Pics. If Federer loses to Gicquel I will never do another pick 'em.

Careful Wolf, that sort of promise is what made a certain admin of ours a shed-dweller.

Ferrer, Baggy and Berdych are crucial today, and all 3 winning could keep me in my top 20 spot, but that may require Super Bol to beat Hewitt, seeing as Gonzo let me down this time after justifying my faith in him at RG where I had him in the QF's

Hope that Ferrer returns like he did at Rosmalen last week and beats the most overrated player in men's tennis in Ancic to keep me strong....

Here's to a good KO competition folks :D

I have a feeling in my murky waters that BT.net may get revenge for RG here so I thought I should try and intimidate you with a flash.gif and a team_cc.gif

Grrrr at Verdasco - the last time I picked him to win a match, he slipped to abject defeat, now this time when I haven't picked him to win anything, he seems determined to mess up my chances of a top 50 finish single-handedly, by:

- knocking out Kohli, one of my R3 picks
- beating Rochus, thus sending me down another 40 places
- taking the 1st set off Berdbrain, one of my QF picks

Is there no stopping this monster?

Berdych bagelled in the 3rd! furiousfuriousfurious Even Dammit has never managed to make me this angry!

Having stuffed me three rounds in a row now by winning, all Verdammtco needs to do in the next round is lose to Pics or Baby Goran to have single-handedly destroyed my Wimby pick 'em chances in just over a week. No doubt that's what he'll do ...

That's also the first match (of just two in the whole draw) where Womble (the bot who uses the Wimby seeding formula) predicted a different result to Roberta (who uses the normal rankings) and Roberta won.

Womble can make sure they end up equal if Baggy wins today, since Roberta had Ivo for that one.
