Great fight at the end from Boggo and he looked to be matching Cilic at the end, if not playing better than him.
However, he made far too many errors to begin the match with by the sounds of things, but once he cut them out and kept himself in the rally he was winning more of the points and appeared the better player - the problem was he was 2 break down by the time and so was never in the match.
Only 2 aces and 6 DF's isn't great serving, and he only served at 57%, winning just 42% on the 2nd serve which wasn't good enough for most of the match, and probably worst serving stats of the tournament for him.
But at least he made a fight of it at the end which is something he hasn't done in the past which can only be an improvement, but we just have to that he played like that at the start of the match and has fought back like that in previous matches.
I'd have taken 6-4, 6-4 at the start of the day so can't be too disappointed with it and at least he wasn't thrashed going into Wimbledon which would have destroyed his confidence, but coming off the back of this fightback he must be thinking he has a good chance
Pity, it feels like he could have had that match had he not made it such a struggle by going down early breaks in each set, and 25 extra points plus a winnable QF would have been nice.
However, I'm sure if a few days ago you'd offered Boggo qualifying then winning a main draw match, he'd have taken it!
This is the year Boggo gets an ok draw at Wimby and wins a main draw match there too ... * everythung crossed *

boggo on the match: "The conditions were tough, it was a little windy and Marin's a solid player so it was always going to be a tough match.
"I didn't serve too well today and I couldn't hold serve out there.
"But it was good to get back into the match even though he served out for it at 5-4.
"It's tough to be aggressive when you play a top player and with the conditions as well.
"Most of the time he was dictating the play to me. Maybe if I'd won the first point at 4-5, when I had an easy forehand - and broken - anything could have happened, but I enjoyed the experience."

I went today (for the last time! DAMN YOU LTA!) and my patience was sorely tested by Alex!
I have to say though, I am not quite so cynical about Alex anymore. Initially in the first set I was but he's not as bad a player as he was last time I saw him play. He has some good shots and when his first serve is on, he's better than I usually give him credit for.
HOWEVER, he is far too inconsistent and only played really well in patches. 4-1 down, two great games to get one of the breaks back... then nothing for a few more games. 5-1 down in the second set, two matchpoints... thinking "here we go again..." ready to go back to the car for a drink... and suddenly he bursts into life again. Excellent fight in the final game of the match. saved four more match points but in the end, Cilic was really the better player overall but Alex was able to give him the runaround which led me to believe that if he was more consistent, then he might have been able to snag that match.
Dsiappointing but not a bad run really, given that he qualified as well. It gives him a few points to push him back up the rankings at the very least.
The most heartbreaking thing about the whole day was hearing one little boy at the end of the day, he was SO excited bless him, telling his mum that he'd had a brilliant day and he wanted to come back next year. I was nearly in tears for him but it just emphasised just how disgusted I am with the LTA about the event. You could tell it was the last year.
All I can hope for is that Nottingham bids for Birmingham and gets it.

Bloody LTA.
That confirms what the radio commentators were saying about his performance.
It's got to be hard for those tennis fans who live north of London to take with this tournament being taken away, but if the LTA really is losing as much money as they are apparantly on this tournament, it makes no commercial sense to keep the event at Nottingham if there's losing at least £250,000 on it as the figures suggest... while doubling it with Eastbourne should at least save them some money.
Nottingham is getting the Surbiton challenger next year, and while it isn't the same as an ATP event, it's still a good quality event to have and will provide people with tennis.... but I fully understand that it won't be the same for those who want to see the best players playing.
The move to Eastbourne next year? Selfishly, it's probably my favourite LTA move given that when it happens next year I'll be a 10-15 minute walk from Devonshire Park and so having the ATP/WTA on my doorstep will be ideal.
And if it does stop the LTA losing money, then it does make sense to combine the events (why didn't they move the WTA event to Nottingham would be an arguement you could make as well)
is devoshire park where rthey played the dc? it didnt seem that big.
Yeah....it's the only grass courts in Eastbourne that I know of so I presume it's there.
I know it has the main court, and there are 2 other courts visible from outside the place, but it must have a couple more courts available you'd think as I don't think 3 will be enough for a ATP/WTA event, and practice courts...
EDIT: There's a photo on the website that shows at least 6 courts so they should have enough...
Disappointing day at the finals. Flaming weather meant we saw nothing as it all ended up indoors. I came home feeling really down as i fair wanted to see Jamie play.
