RE: Week 24 - Queen's Club ATP - London

Yes, but this board isn't for trolls like that. On most fora people consider anyone outside the top 300 to be rubbish.

Malisse is obviously a class above Dan at the moment however I haven't been overly impressed with Dan's attitude, he doesn't appear to be showing any belief and did rather gift Malisse the set-point. I hope that he can convince himself that he is good enough to win this otherwise he won't even get close in this set either.

I agree Arka but unfortunately we're in the minority and the vast majority of people think like that. Dan Evans getting a wildcard when he's clearly not ready and taking a thumping on terrestrial TV hardly does much to promote the image that things are getting better for British tennis

Much better game there, and a "CMON" from Dan. 1-1 second set

Does Evo deserve the WC? Well, no, I'd not have given him one but at the same time it's idiocy to say that he deserves to get double bagelled. He can learn a lot from it, I'm sure.

And besides, this board is for supporting Brits, not rubbish comments like that - I'll delete anything like that henceforth unless Shedman tells me not to.

I agree with you Arka, I assume your comment was aimed at jazar there, not me because I never said anything like that and said I was supporting him 100% and hope he can do himself justice.

No, absolutely not at you. smile.gif You're hardly the sort of person who thinks that only Slam winners are worth supporting - as shown countless times by your posts regarding Priddle, Sagoo etc.

Hopefully Dan can hold now and get at least 3 games on the board in this set, getting beat 1 & 1 would be a little confidence sapping.

Malisse def. Evans 6-1 6-1

I had hoped that Dan could have posted a few more games in the second set but once he was broken after being 40-15 up he just didn't seem to have any fight left in him and last few games just fell away.

That was too painful in the end, couldn''t watch any more, hopefully Bloomers will give us something to cheer about but i doubt it.

Well that was a good thrashing Daniel took there. Hope he got something from it.

I'm not a fan of the wild card system TBH. I wish wild cards where not allowed. I don't think it will have done him any harm though because playing someone like Malisse is good experience in what it takes to get to the big time.

It's okay. I won't pretend that it's an impressive score but there's nothing he has lost from this. Now he knows how hard life on the Tour is and the next time he's here, he'll be better prepared, I'm sure. And it was a learning experience, no doubt about it.

Anyway, quite surprising Vallverdu won a match in doubles here huh?

Weird stuff on the post front.

Going to get another beer from the fridge so I forget about this.

I think the wildcard system's pretty important to generate local interest in an event (and sponsorship).  In some countries (Britain included) events would end up being dropped from the calendar were it not for the local wildcards - this wouldn't be good for the game of tennis now, nor in terms of promoting the sport for the future.
