and Naomi wins 7-5, for her best ever win on ranking. The one break point she saved at 4-5 (doubling as set point) was probably critical. Well done Naomi! She plays Margit Ruutel in the final qualifying round tomorrow.
Looking at the match stats, 11 aces to 1 DF is a great ratio, with 74% First Serves in, suggests she was going for her serve and was making it the majority of the time. She stands a good chance against Ruutel, but even so this result shows promise (as does qualifying for Surbiton)
The main draw is out and Fitzy has picked up the 4th WC, but plays Mel (Mel keeps drawing other Brits - Katie at the French and Naomi B at Surbiton). Some quite tough draws for the others:
Anne plays Kateryna Bondarenko (Ukr, 12) Naomi C plays Jill Craybas (US, 14) Katie plays Alla Kudryavtseva (Rus) Elena plays Ekaterina Makarova (Rus, 15)

At least one lady through then.
Bad draws there and cant see much progress......but hope I'm wrong
Oh, I wasn't aware that there were four WCs! So any player can take the Gold/Silver Exempt if the big shots refuse, then?
This issue was brought up in TennisForum and the rule quoted there is: "For Tier III and Tier IV Tournaments, if the WTA does not use the Gold/Silver Exempt Wild Card, this Wild Card may be awarded by the Tournament to any player, subject to Age Eligibility restrictions and Wild Card limitations."
Hell of a win for Broady and on the faster surfaces she will turn out to be a big threat, and when she's on her game she will take some stopping
Not great draws, but they are the kind of matches you have to win if you want to make it up the rankings, so I'd hope at least 1 or 2 of them can get the win and join South in round 2 (who won't lose to Fitzpatrick)
