Anyone know how significant this win would be? For her ranking for a start, or for example when the last time a Brit made the quarters of Birmingham was?

Just seen should take her to about 137. Another win she'll go to 125 so gaps get a bit larger.
She will be about 80 points off top 100 which she could get with another win here or Eastborne, with also a win at Wimbledon if I'm not mistaken?
She's defending a win at Eastbourne (35 points) so in fact she needs to win more matches on the grass in order to make any net gain and move up the rankings significantly (for more than one week). A place in the semis here would gain her an additional 30 points and reaching the final a further 35 points, and should she win the title she'd get another 40. That would get her into the top 100 for one week then she'd need a win at Eastbourne or Wimbledon to stay inside the top 100.
Still a superb win, far more impressive than the victory over Bammer who was woefully off-form on the day. Nakamura wasn't double faulting left right and centre, so Mel had to hold serve to win the match. Outside chance of Mel winning her next round but should give her confidence for Wimbledon and hopefully she'll get a decent draw.
Think Petchey just said Mel is only the third Brit to ever make the quarters in Birmingham. Would that be right?
