Other than all three tournaments being prestigious and of a high standard, the main draws of the two younger divisions act as qualies for international team competitions - the Junior Fed Cup for 16s and World Junior Tennis for the 14s. There was a time when we had one for the 18s, too - the Connolly Continental Cup, but the USTA and ITF have stopped that for no reason at all.
Now this is a dilemma all fans of British tennis should relish - we have someone who can claim a spot in both the 16s and 18s tournaments by right, and guess what? She's only 14!
Assuming that you're allowed to play in more than one tournament as long as they don't clash, these are the players I would choose -
18s - I don't think that the ITF will allow Konta, will they? If they do, it should be Konta, Moore and Rae. If not - Moore, Rae and Cornish.
I am not in favour of Robson doing this as she needs to save up her 18s tournaments now.
16s - Laura Robson, Jennifer Ren and Elisha Gabb. Gabb over Askew since this is on clay.
14s - Laura Robson, Jessica Ren and Joanna Henderson. This team requires no justifications, I'm sure.
The 18s do not have too much of a chance of doing very well, the 14s have an outside chance, but it's obvious that the youngest team will go in as one of the favourites. Jessica's become sort of a veteran in these, you know - she's been in the teams since 2006.
Whoops! Good point there regarding the dates - I didn't pay attention to them and just blindly typed them out. So Robson will do Wimbly Juniors and if she goes out early, she can play here...
Through to the qualies final, where we have a tough match against Belgium. Result doesn't matter as we're already through to the finals, but it could get us seeded there!
And Heather has to be there for the 18s team, now! And Robson should play this, too, I think - the point of saving up isn't valid any more (so much has changed since I made that post). Team will probably be, and should be in my opinion, Laura, Tara and Heather.
