RE: Davis Cup - World Group Playoff - GBR v Austria - 19-21 September 2008

It was probably Nottingham (seriously, how about some research journalists, it's how you get facts right) where Hutch played with Boggo and got a wild card. But then again what am I saying Josh would have been playing Wimbledon qualies that week so couldn't possibly play Nottingham.

So basically the journo is talking out of his arse and should stop stirring up unnescary aggravation.

Why would Josh expect a doubles WC over Hutchins? confused

Rankings at that time:

Josh 153/156
Ross 135/138

edit: could print out lots of lyric sheets and give to the murray bunch (if they'd agree to sing it - after all its not about murray) that huge group of them could make some noise if they acted in unison.

Already planned, I'd just need to get a couple of the key members onside I think. Of course, Boggo's got to do something worth singing about first!

Or he was annoyed that Muzza and Valverdu got the doubles WC for Queen's. I seem to remember most of us were too.

Of course that is the likely scenario, and he would have a right to be aggrieved about that.

I'll try and see if Slabba knows anything about this, he knows Josh quite well.

Maybe Hutchins was originally going to get a Queens doubles wc but then Muzza decided he wanted extra grass practise and so it went to him leaving Hutch to try his luck at Warsaw

Given the circumstances seems like this team was the only real choice for Lloydy. Boggo's been the only stand-out GB player in the summer challengers.

I'm pleased they haven't taken a 6-man squad because tbh it would be better for likes of Slabba, Bloomers, Baker, Ward, Eaton etc to spend that week after ranking points if they're not going to play a rubber. If they're going to take hitting partners, it should be juniors

Guess it must be the fact Murray and Valverdu got a WC at Queens ahead of Ross, as if Murray wanted the grass court practice then he could have played with Ross, or someone else that meant he didn't need a WC.

But then Andy and Ross are friends, so I doubt that would be the case...

The damage has yet to be repaired from a major falling-out that took place last year at the Queen's Club Artois tournament over the allocation of doubles wild cards to British players.

wink

Well, I've looked up 2007 Queen's wild cards: Jamie Delgado/Ross Hutchins and Alex Bogdanovic/Marat Safin. So I don't see how there is any problem with the Murrays there. . . and if the journo meant singles, then they went to Boggo, Baker and Bloomers.  Strange.

I get the impression that Josh is something of a fiery character, so there may well have been an argument about something!

Madeline: Although you might be correct, from what I have seen of Josh on and off the court he seems to be a rather placid personality who doesn't become too frustrated/angered on court and is humble and pleasant away from it. It sounds to me like this 'issue' [as of yet, undefined...] really put a bee in his bonnet and thus the outburst.

I hope they'll choose Willis and not Cox. juggle.gif He badly needs to do Nottingham.

For my part Josh goodall should have been in the squad, is it a case of the Murray brothers picking the Davis Cup squad and not John LLoyd. Jamie Murray as a back up singles player is just not on he cannot hack it. Surely it should be three singles player plus one doubles expert Hutchins or Jamie Murray. If J Murray and Hutchins were a team then pick both but this will never happen as Jamie Murray would not want to lose doubles no 1 ranking in UK. A few years ago it was mooted he would play with Auckland who was higher ranked but Jamie refused. This year with Mirnyi he has not been that great was better with Butorac last year.

The most effective way to ensure you stay ahead of someone in the doubles rankings is to play with them straight after a good result with someone else, so if that was Jamie's motivation he should have linked up with Ross any one of the many times that has occured. Thereby making it impossible for Hutchins to catch him for a year or pass him at all without a good seperate result.

I was going by the commotion he made when Lundgren was suddenly suspended, leaving him without a coach for Wimbledon. While he had a right to be upset about this, reports at the time indicated he went over the top.

Of course reports are often incorrect and if people who actually know him know better, then I stand corrected.

I've always regarded Josh as a hot headed rebel (which I don't mind). But that's without seeing him in real life, so it's probably not true.

What I don't get is why some people seem to hate him for no reason at all? confused.gif He keeps getting ignored even when he is doing well. Hopefully he'll get to the top 100 someday and blast them in front of the media.

I could tell you why I think both Jamie and Hutchins have been chosen, but hmmph!
