Davis Cup - World Group Playoff - GBR v Austria - 19-21 September 2008

Well we may as well start the thread for this tie now.

So what do we know about this tie ?

Well it will take place at the All-England Club, Court 1 from 19th to 21st September 2008.

We will have 2 singles matches on the Friday. The usual one doubles rubber Saturday and hopefully 2 dead rubbers on the Sunday...thats if we are 3-0 up at the time of course.

Secretly I want it 2-1 to Austria going into the Sunday with Jamie Baker bringing home the tie with a 5 set win !

So much for Secrets !

Please feel free to post any useful or useless info in this thread such as ticket information, team info, whos going etc.

Britishtennis.net have a good relationship with the LTA and have been given the nod to media acreditation for the tie. The forms come out in July but we have been given the green light.

So not to miss out on booking early I have flights and hotel all booked up flying into London very early on the 19th. Hotel is only 10min walk apparently to Wimby.

Anyone else thinking of going ? Tickets out in July I believe.

Thinking of going myself but can't commit quite yet. So you'll be representing BT.net at the tie then Drew?

Yes I will.

We done the same at the Holland tie in Birmingham.

I reported all the press conferences, interviews and match reports as well as a blog.

I managed to provide live score updates on the dead rubbers on the Sunday as TV / Radio packed up early !

So more of the same this time but please open to ideas !

LOL Drew, last year we stayed in Tufnell Park which was cheap and the area wasn't too bad. Only problem was it was about 45 minutes on the tube there and back each day. We went down on Thursday night, after a few hours travelling Thursday including my mate losing his phone before we reached the B & B, then travelling full length of London twice Friday and Saturday and also went out until around 3am Friday night, by Saturday night we were EXHAUSTED lol

We were tucked up in bed by 9pm I think and slept in for the dead rubbers and missed all of Sunday's play.

Hopefully get something a little closer this time then lol

I got a hotel in Worple Road for £60 B&B but no ensuite. Only 10-15mins walk from Wimby !

i have no idea how accurate this is but the this is london (evening standard) listed the team as:

Murray, brother Jamie, doubles expert Ross Hutchins and Alex Bogdanovic, the other singles player, have the difficult task of keeping Britain among the elite of 16 nations.

dont see it personally, thats the same team as in argentina just swapping andy for JB. i think will more likley see Josh in and Ross as a back up.  potentialy alex could play dubs if andy cant. With a good partner i think alex can do ok. however i cant see JL picking anything other than andy and jamie, no matter the score on Friday, unless andy has a injury issue, in which case we are probably screwed anyway :)

I posted in the USO doubles thread where Andy, in an interview, said that he was playing doubles with Ross there as Ross would be in the DC team.

I can't understand the thinking. Surely, if Andy is fit to play doubles as well as singles, it will be with Jamie, not Ross. Unless if we win the first two matches they are going to play Jamie and Ross to give Andy a rest.

but i am thinking if we win the 1st 2 matches they may play andy and jamie to try and wrap up the tie.

also that means we go in with 2 singles players, so either josh or alex and no back up. i think thats very risky, its much more likley that a good singles player will do ok in doubles, whereas a good doubles player who doesnt play singles will most probably get thrashed.

however i expcet ross to be in and around the team at any rate.

Who chose this team? omg.gif

Having two doubles players makes no sense unless they are a star pairing like the Bryans or Erlich/Ram where you're almost guaranteed a win.

So we have half of the team for playing one fifth of the matches. Woohoo!

Let's hope that this is rumour, though. I'd have the Murrays and Boggo and then either Josh or Ward/Eaton/Cox/Evans for the experience.

i think its just that ross will be in the squad, alex said JL will may well pick a 6 man sqaud for the tie, i'd guess AM,JM,AB,JG, RH and either CE or JW as the 6th.
