RE: Long Brit-bashing / Brit-bashed streaks

As soon as I saw Borg and McEnroe in the list I thought of him. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a couple of other long streaks around that time period.

GB had a few OK players but none to beat the really top guys so I suspect there are more streaks to find :)

I could be wrong but I just found a streak of 22 by Ille Nastase.

The streak was ended by Richard Lewis in 1981. Prior to that he hadn't lost to a Brit since Ian Hewitt in 1972.

On re-count it was 23 but I could of added on an extra one :)

23 ... so Freddie Nielsen hasn't got the all-time longest BBS after all, though I'm pretty sure he has the longest streak this century. Thanks for finding that one. I've just tried Connors too - he won 34 of the last 35 matches he played against Brits, including streaks of 14 and 20.

Greetings Brit-bash pickers...
... to a run-down of the Top 40 Brit-Bash Parade.

Let's start with the big new entries in the Top 40.

At No.30 - Roberto Bautista, his win at Tipton helps the Spaniard make his first entry on the chart.
At No.25 - Romain Jouan. Now on a run of 7 big Brit-bashes.
At No.23 - Roman Valent, he loves his Brit-bashing in Jersey, his last 4 bashes have been there.
At No.16 - Raphael Lustenberger, 5 Brit bashes in the last 7 months, including a double bagel this week over young Kyle Edmund.
At No.12 - It's former junior world number 1, Vladimir Ignatik, 6 bashes this year.  The Belarussian sure love his Brit-bashing.  Not half.

But, it's goodbye to Joseph Sirianni, the Brit-Bash Parade 2006 Christmas No.1 - a Jersey Josh Milton loss has seen the 35 year-old Aussie crashing out the Top 40 for the first time in many a Brit-Bash year.

Another big faller - Yannick Mertens - his loss to Chris Eaton in January sees the Belgian fall from the Christmas No.5 down to No.24.  Are Mertens Brit-Bash days over?

No time to ponder, it's time a plunder on into the big Top 10...
And at No.10, it's Karol Beck, up 40 places, more of a Boggo-basher than a Brit-basher.  Not half.  4 of his last 6 Brit-bashes have been against the Bogster.
At No.9 - another former junior world number 1, Ricardas Berankis, his Davis Cup bashes move him up 25 places. That's now 7 out of 7 bashes for the Lithuanian.
And at No.8 - a high new entry for Andrej Martin, this Slovakian has already recorded 6 bashes this year. His run to the Bath title helping that all-important Brit-bash count.
At No.7 - a non-mover, Pedro Clar, holding his position with a solitary A-Ward bash. Now on a run of 11 consecutive Brit-bash bashes.
At No.6 - it's the highest new entry, it's Gleb Sakharov, with 7 bashes in just two months.  Looks like this Frenchman's heading for the top.
No.5 - Kamil Capkovic, this Slovakian now on a run of 12 bashes.  Who will stop him?
At 4 - it's Sebastien de Chaunac, the 32-year-old, still holding his own.  Brit-bashing for de Chaunac started back in 1998.  His Josh Milton-bash in March gave him his 16th straight bash.

And so, here we go, into the Top 3 ...

At 3 - it's Aussie, Samuel Groth, who continues to close in on the top two, now on an ab fab run of 15 big straight big Brit-bashes.

And so, on to the Top 2.  Who will number one?  Will it be Robert? Or will it be Nielsen? The two grooviest Brit bashers of all time...  Too right mate..

Well I can tell you, at NUMBER ONE - it's the funky Dane himself - it's Frederik Nielsen!!
Nielsen reclaiming the supreme Brit-Basher position, from Stephane Robert who has yet to record a Brit bash this year.
Nielsen is ominously back up a run of 5 bashes, but will he get near his 22 bash run of '06-'08?

Well that's all Brit-bash pickers!

Here's the full run-down.

LOL that's amazing, though a 'current streak' column would be nice if it's not too hard to add.

BB points, for anyone wondering, are Wins * (%-0.5)^2 * 100 (from an earlier post by Akhenaten on this thread) - I think he's trying to balance the effects of a high % and a lot of wins.

There you go Steven... streaks added.

I've actually complicated the formula a bit more, so that recent Brit-bashing is better than ancient Brit-bashing.

yes I can ... I tend not to moan about that anyway, do I? ... and asking once every dozen times I'm asked doesn't seem excessive. LOL wink

Sebastien de Chaunac actually has the longest current Brit Bash Streak.

His Brit Bash over Dan Cox in the Wimbly Qualies this year gave him his 17th straight bash, a record going all the way back to 1998.

Though Wimbledon was the last tournament he's played, so there's maybe a chance he's decided to hang Undefeated Brit Bashing Boots up..

You're right that de Chaunac should be on the list, not sure how he got missed. I make it 16 bashes going back to his loss to Mackin in 2000. I can see how you might have got 17 if you include a walkover against Rusedski (or if I miscounted!), but not sure how you have it going back to 1998.

I've added it anyway.

I think it is 17.  But yes, you're right it's only back to 2000.

Time for a countdown me thinks...

Roberto Ortega-Olmedo (ESP) : The 19 year old has had a busy few Brit Bashing months - since May, a 7/9 Brit Bash record has moved the young Spaniard into the Brit Bash Top 40!

Kei Nishikori (JPN) : A Brit Bash career started at the age of just 16 for Nishikori, with a 2006 win over Nick Cavaday.  With a 2010 win over Cavaday again at Eastbourne this year, Kei moves into the chart at no. 31 with a perfect 6/6 record.

Antoine Escoffier (FRA) : Wow straight in at no.17!  Escoffier didn't have a single Brit Bash under his belt 'til May.  Now he's got 8!  Can Slabba stop the French teenager tomorrow!?

Go Soeda (JPN) : In May Soeda added Boggo & Goodall to his impressive Brit Bash collection.  Baker, Ward, Parmar, Childs falling to Go in years gone by. Now at no.16

Ryan Sweeting (USA) : 2 Baker bashes in May, move Sweeting to the edge of the Top 10 at no.11.  Now a 7/7 basher - 4 of those over the Fabulous Baker Boy.

Ricardas Berankis (LTU) : After a post-DC Boggo/Evo bash double, Berkanis moves up 3 places to No.6.  9/9 bashes and counting...

Into the Top 5...

Capkovic stays steady at 5.  Not wanting to rush into adding to his 12 bash streak.
At 4, Groth suffers a loss to Eaton ending his amazing 15 bash streak.
At 3, 32 year old de Chaunac keeps steadily bagging the bashes.  17 in 10 years.
At 2, not a bash for 14 months now for Stephane Robert.  But his incredible bashing feats of 2008 and '09 hold him in second spot.

So, yet again the undisputed Brit Basher is No. 1, Frederik Nielsen!  A routine Morgan Phillips bash in May keeping him in form for a possible repeat Brit massacre.  The Nielsen of 2007 still gives all Brits nightmares!
