RE: Week 22 - Challenger (€64,000) - Izmir, Turkey

Ouch doh

Its hard to grasp at any positives after losing so badly to a 33 y.o.

Drew: biggrin  Very good.

thsi is a very disapointing result, the only +ive is that maybe he will get a bit more time to prepare on grass.

To be honest i think that it would be a good thing if alex and brad split. crazy to say as BG is clearly a world class coach but how many matches has alex bottled under brad? he has done it in the past true, but i never remember it being this bad.
unfortuanlty alex is in the position where he has to do whatever the lta says. if alex had hired a private coach and this was how his results were going then he would end the relationship, but the lta seem to be sticking with it depsite the fact that it clearly isnt working.

I wonder what Brad thinks about 'slumming it' at challenger events?
Quite a climb down from ATP!

It won't be long before he is slumming it at futures events at this rate!

3-6 1-6 is what it says - http://www.izmircup.org/en/index.php?sayfa=netice

I wonder what Brad has to say to that?

Erm, let me see ...

"There's never been a player I haven't managed to take to a different level. With Roddick, it was from top 10 to no. 1. With Murray it was from top 100 to top 10. With Bogdanovic, it was from Challengers to Futures." ashamed

3 and 1.... against Bastl..... that is bad and seriously depressing news, as it's not just the loss, it's how easy it was - I wouldn't have expected Ward/Slabba/Skupski to lose that easily, let alone Boggo

Terrible loss, and he really needs some confidence from somewhere, and get some wins to stop him slipping down the rankings - hope he gets a good draw over the grass court season or else it will be more tales of Boggo losing first round matches and wasting wild cards

Thats so bad it hurts, perhaps Boggo needs to play futures, get some wins and some confidence back

from Nathii's site

Bastl d. Bogdanovic 63 61

This match was on show court with Brad Gilbert watching. Bastl is a muscular, big guy, and he was putting his all into this, that's what I can't tell for Bogdanovic. There were some long games early in the 1st set, to add lenght to these games Bastl is taking long time before serving. But Bastl was never troubled even in the 1st set and quickly finished the 1st set, and Alex took a bathroom break. 2nd set was even quicker, it was 5-0 for Bastl in no time with Alex missing everything. Then he saved MP to hold and Bastl finished the match easily. I liked Bastl's attitude, he put his all in the match, fought hard and deserved this win. At his age to fight like this in a challenger first round is impressive.

My boss is Turkish, but I'd rather not send to him for translation!

The Izmir Cup welcomes Brad Gilbert. Gilbet has coached greats like agassi and roddick and now the great Alex Bogdanvoic. Gilbert has got Alex to a impressive ranking of 242. Alex was very thankfull of having brad with him and pointed out without such a great coach he would only be 255. he wntned to thank the people of Izmir for giving him such a warm welcome, but kinda fancied to go home now and have a rest.

Brad Gilbert, in an unsual turn of events, was unavaible for comments on his players performance in Izmir.
