The complete and utter French mug known as Richard Gasquet

EDIT: Somehow I'm hanging on in the top 100 here, but with Nalby, Berdych as QF's out, I'm going to struggle tomorrow.... in fact, only Nadal, Verdasco, Almagro, Djokovic and PHM.... so actually, I can do quite well tomorrow then...

And what possesed me to put Robredo and Gonzo in the QF's.... although I think Gonzo has a fair chance if he gets past Stan the man

Berdych was a foolish call to put in the QF's, and ruins all the hard work I did by not picking Gasquet to do well, while Numpty seems to be back to his brilliant best where he looks absolutely hopeless, only to win something out of the blue, or lose to an even bigger mug (so he's winning Queens/Wimbledon, or losing to a someone totally unknown in them)

Generically ... a 'GEM'  (garlic eating malingerer) - a french player who have to reach at least the last 16, and then pulls out when it's too late to change your selections.

So THAT's what GEM means smile.gif

The most addicted pick 'em team rankings

Here are the teams ordered by the number of posts on their main pick 'em thread up to the end of day 5, with number of entrants and position in the real pick 'em teams league to the right of each team name. There is a slight correlation between posting a lot and doing well!

Posts on each forum's main pick 'em thread to end of day 5

415 CC - Centre Court Forum (26) - 1st
396 AM - AndyMurray.com (43) - 6th
273 TA - TalkAboutTennis (36) - 7th
153 TY - Tennis4you.com (17) - 2nd
124 BT - BritishTennis.net (30) - 5th
47 JM - JamieMurray.org (13) - 8th
44 RF - RogerFederer.com (33) - 11th
26 TN - Tennisopolis.com (39) - 13th
14 AR - AndyRoddick.com (14) - 10th
11 GR - Rusedski.co.uk (12) - 9th
10 MT - MensTennisForums (21) - 3rd
4 RG - RichardGasquet.net (12) - 4th
0 ND - Novak-Djokovic.com (5) - 12th (*)

(*) This is because the English invite to them to take part was zapped by the mods (Fed board style) as soon as it appeared and while the Serbian translation that Jelena did for me lasted for a day or two, it has now been zapped as well. furious

I'm amazed they managed a team of five under the circumstances. Still, all that zapping of posts about pick 'em on the Fed board hasn't stopped successstory and Arab from getting ever bigger teams together and they even have a thread on there now that has survived for a while. evileye

Falla takes the first against Benneteau. w00t.gif

Come on Jarkko, you must beat Nadal somehow today. Then I'll gain by the "I lose but you lose more" policy. pray.gif

Friday's OoP as it applies to this comp and how many entrants picked each player - if your pick to win a match went out in an earlier round, the best damage limitation is likely to be achieved by the player picked by the lower % winning the match.

ROUND 2

1st on C1 - Falla (1%) v Benneteau (31%) - most had Ivo
2nd on C17 - Serra (6%) v Hanescu (4%) - most had Dammit

ROUND 3

3rd on PC - Bolelli (13%) v Llodra (5%) - most had Berdbrain or Baggy
4th on PC - Schwank (1%) v Mathieu (37%) - most had Moya
2nd on SL - Nieminen (1 entrant) v Nadal (99%)
4th on SL - Odesnik (nobody) v Djokovic (98%)
3rd on C1 - Chardy (nobody) v Tursunov (3%) - most had Numpty
3rd on C2 - Youzhny (31%) v Verdasco (59%)
2nd on C7 - Gulbis (4%) v Lapentti (2%) - most had Tipsy or Flake
3rd on C7 - Almagro (57%) v Murray (38%)

Can't believe so many people have Verdasco to beat Youzhny! I have Mathieu to beat Schwank, wish I had it the other way round on reflection.

Nando's the better clay courter and thrashed him in Hamburg 2 weeks ago, so he's rightfully the favourite in this match.... that said trusting him is always a difficult task

EDIT: Right on cue he gets broken when serving for the first set

Interboard KO - observation ....

It's good having the robots in the other half of the draw, as they were scoring very well,  even Amelie isn't dragging them down too much with quite a few GEMs scoring points for her.

However come the QF/SF/Final,  her GEM picks will all be out, so she'll be total dead weight on their side if they are in the final.

Yes, and it won't be the first time that Amelie has died at the start of the second week ...

To be honest, the Robots are doing better than I can ever remember them doing at this stage, they're usually the team you want to get in the KO, the later the round, the better!

PHM loses the third after winning the first two. I need him to do what he's best at, then.

Chardy winning by a set and and a break against Dima plus Djokovic two sets to none up against Odesnik.

If all three matches go in my favour, I'll end the day positively or at least nearabout where I started it, I guess.

PHM wins the fourth set with a 'breaker (11-9) and that ends today's play.

Grrr at Schwank making me carry on watching live scores just for that. The end of R2 dropped me out of the top 10 today, Andy's loss had me down in 29th and Mathieu's win pushed me down to 39th. Grrr. Still, sheddie only got 2/8 in R3 today, that's just ...

Anyway, the end of day updates are now available at http://www.britishtennis.net/competitions.html

Look how tight it is at the top of the teams table, with just 0.3% separating the top 5 teams! TAT are up 5 to 2nd today (well done!) after going down 4 yesterday, and are also beating the robots in the team KO QFs. This yo-yoing up and down must imply that they are doing well in the bottom half of the draw and badly in the top half.

The predominantly GB teams had a bad day today - no prizes for guessing why that was. cry So badly, in fact, that AM.com is managing to lose to the Djokers in the Team KO at the moment - I didn't see that coming!

Also, hebegeebee (IN) has astonishingly (given the number of entrants) managed to open up a 5-point gap at the top of the individual table!
