Don't know what happened to Miles there but he appears to be in a terrible run of form at the moment. A few weeks ago he was on the verge of the top 500 but it looks as if he going to dropping out of the top 600 and losing this kind of match as easily doesn't inspire confidence that he can turn it around.
Skupski though is in a hell of a run at the moment and hopefully he can keep it going and get plenty of points in the bag while he's still playing like this. And looking at that draw in round 2 he's got it will be a disaster if he doesn't make the QF's here, where Klein will be a tough opponent but if he catches him on one of the days where he's totally off then he's beatable (and it's a shame he's only in Kuwait for one week with weakish fields, good ranking points and him in top form).
Still, at least Skupski looks to be hitting top form before the grass court season where I'm expecting him to gain quite a few points as long as he doesn't get some horrible draws
Miles' dreadful run started with the default against Carsten Ball in Portugal a couple of months ago. If he had lost that match normally and kept his points for winning the previous ones, he'd have cracked the top 500, but losing his points for getting to that round stopped him and since then, he seems not to have realised that the 2-year-long 'curse' doesn't apply any more.
I wonder what happened that day and if it really has affected him since, directly or indirectly.

I guess that's what you want after a heavy week - an easy match, then an easy match which doesn't even finish!
As you'll have gathered from my pre-preview yesterday ...
I couldn't believe Klein (WR 431) was no. 3 seed, given his results last year against Brits. it turns out that he has got to where he is by winning 3 Futures in AUS & NZL between October and February. Before that, i.e. last summer, he was losing to the links of Tim Hewitt, Ed Corrie and Ed Allinson in GB Futures, though he did beat Milton and Evans. In fact, he only had to beat a winter coat in R1 here - Frank Wintermantel of Germany. (Mantel = coat in German for anyone who hadn't guessed
... I'm hopeful that Ken will be able to leave Klein with plenty of time for his "hobbies" too. (I imagine Kuwaiti fathers are locking up their daughters right now! )

Good couple of wins from Ken today and this recent run of good form had come at a great time for him. Hopefully he'll make the doubles final this week (and seeing as he plays Vukov again he probably should do) and can come away with a doubles title, and then back that up with an upset win over Klein to make another semi final in the singles.
Klein definately has talent but has some very strange losses at times and has a hell of a temper on him when things don't go his way, so hopefully Skupski can catch him on a bad day
P.S. Ken is now only 6-7 points off the top 500 with no points to defend until the Dublin Challenger in the 2nd week of Wimby.
I realise this is rather premature (particularly when Skupski is about to play a higher-ranked opponent) however... a SF would get him another 3 points a F another 9 points (in total, not 9+3.) a W anouther 15 points.
So he could get there this week with just two more wins!!

Decent result again, I wonder how well Ken will fare against a more mature Klein, I still favour the Skupster
Wrong horse to back, XCW: he lost 4 & 2! On the other hand, he & Gajjar are through to the doubles final after beating Ghedin & Vukov 3 & 4. There they will play the unseeded Ghareeb & Ortegren (!), who had a tougher time in getting the better of the top seeds, Armstrong & Klein (revenge, after a fashion! ), 2-6 7-6(6) [10-3].

Damn, damn, damn! No second doubles final victory for the Brits this weekend: Skups & Gajjar lost 4-6 6-3 [7-10]! Yet again, close, but not quite close enough!
