WOW! Young Ward-the-final (think in a Welsh accent cf. Smith the Milk) hasn't had a reaction from last week; he's beaten world-ranked 596 Jordi Marse-Vidri 7-6 (3), 6-4! And not only has the top seed gone out (see Drew's post, above), so has the other seed in Alex' quarter.
Unfortunately, David Rice has gone out 2 and 3, but has reached the doubles semi-finals.

Another great result! Twice in a week, but this time without dropping a set. He's actually improving!
”Caramba! I thought Marse-Vidri might be better prepared for Alex after losing to him in three sets in the semis last week, but Alex outdid his performance in that match.
L32: (SE) Alexander Ward UNR beat Jordi Marse-Vidri (ESP) WR 596 by 7-6(3) 6-4 L32: (Q) David Rice WR 1126 lost to Frederic Jeanclaude WR 578 by 2 & 3
L16: (SE) Alexander Ward UNR v (Q) Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) WR 1046
Dimitrov, who turned 17 last Friday, beat a seed today but lost a tight 3-setter to Marse-Vidri in R1 last week, which augurs well. However, he beat Alex 2 & 4 in qualifying at the start of this month though that of course seems like centuries ago now. Dimitrov has also lost a tight 2-setter to James Ward this year but has thrashed Greg Goodall and Josh Milton in recent months.
It'll no doubt seem odd for to be Alex playing a younger opponent in a Future!

Wow! The word 'Wow' has begun five of the seven posts on this thread - are we going for a record, Steven? Please consult your files and tell us! Or maybe we should all buy each other thesauruses (thesauri?) for Christmas?
edit: Drat, Dick got in before me - make that 5 of 8.
In a word, no! Though for a Brit, that's often a good sign. This is his full junior record:
SINGLES
The Scottish Junior International Championships Qualifying Draw Great Britain G5 07 Jul 2007 to 08 Jul 2007 Entry : Clay (O) 32 W Elliot BARNWELL (GBR) 6-3 7-5 16 L Alan BEVAN (GBR) 4-6 3-6
86 Slazenger Winchester Great Britain G4 17 Jul 2006 to 22 Jul 2006 Entry : Carpet (O) 128 W David BARTON (GBR) 6-2 6-0 64 L Chris HERBERT (GBR) 3-6 6-3 2-6
DOUBLES
86 Slazenger Winchester Great Britain G4 17 Jul 2006 to 22 Jul 2006 Entry : Carpet (O) partnering James SNAPE (GBR) 32 L BULL (GBR) / COUPLAND (GBR) 3-6 3-6
I assume he's been playing non-ITF junior tournaments in Spain and that's what's stood him in such good stead to play on the Spanish Futures circuit.
