lol, where did Sandy and Sand-man come from, Sand-man is cool just coz its really random
I presume from the fact that "Sandy" is one of a number of diminutive forms/contractions of "Alexander"! Given some of the other suggestions, "Sand-man" seems a logical extension!
I would like to pledge my support for 'Sandy' and put 'Zander' into the fray. I definitely think a one word name that doesn't sound too gimmicky is the best road to be heading down.
It's the clumsiness of the length and the block capitals in GREAT that make it a good nickname! Being the pessimist that I am, I also like the potential irony for the future as he bows out in the first qualifying round of his next few tournaments.

True, there is the irony factor. However I find that the litmus test for nicknames is whether you can imagine calling the name out in a public area and it not sounding totally odd and jokey or whether you can imagine a commentator/crowd using the name during one of his matches, i.e Nicholas Kiefer - 'Kiwi', Nadal - 'Rafa' or Murray - 'Muzza'. I just can't imagine something so long catching on, even on a message board.
If anyone is actually interested in this tournament, they might like to know that David Rice has qualified.
FQR: David Rice beat Takero Akaba 6-3 6-4 . Could have had a nicer draw, though, as four qualifiers are playing other qualifiers and one's drawn a wildcard.
R32: (q) David Rice WR 1126 v Frederic Jeanclaude WR 578
In the doubles, Rice and Ramos-Vinolas are second seeds with a bye in R1.
They play the winners of the match between Akaba/Suzuki and Brown/Pinones-Haltenhoff (Brown being the Brit Paul Brown, who should enjoy playing with the Hoff)
Looking on the bright side though, Rice is actually in the no. 4 seed slot after Olaso withdrew, so if he can find a way to beat Jeanclaude, he could go far!
