Hard fought win from Illingworth against a higer ranked opponent..always brings a to my face. Perhaps he wants to salvage his place in the GB top25 and (more importantly) on Steven's table!
Nice solid win from Bamfs as well.

Nice to see two of our boys outside the top 1000 (Thornley last week, Illingworth this) do the double on Heyl. I see neither of them will know their R2 opponents until tomorrow.
The German-with-the-English-name Richard Waite who knocked out Thornley made it to R2 as well, as did Irish qualifier Tristan Farron-Mahon.

Patient lost, missing his best chance yet to get a ranking point (though it has still been a good tournament from him) and the other two now know their R2 opponents:
Recap
L32: Matt Illingworth WR 1023 beat Heinrich Heyl (RSA) WR 938 by 4-6 6-3 6-3 L32: (7) Neil Bamford WR 799 beat (WC) Charalampos Kapogiannis (GRE) WR 1491 by 1 & 4 L32: (Q) Timothy Patient UNR lost to (WC) Konstantinos Mikos (GRE) WR 1491 by 4 & 4
L16: Matt Illingworth WR 1023 v (6) Bart Beks (NED) WR 773 L16: (7) Neil Bamford WR 799 v Marco Sattanino (ITA) WR 1490
34-year-old Beks was once in the top 600 but is very up and down (mostly down) these days. The last Brit he played was Nick Crawley, who beat him 4 years ago when ranked around 600.
Sattanino ended a 5-match losing streak with his R1 win. He is most notorious to us for inflicting Bloomers' most embarrassing moment last year (possibly ever, if you forget the time he agreed to play doubles with Adam L ), beating him 6-1 4-6 6-2 on clay in San Remo almost exactly a year ago but he has suffered three separate losing streaks of 5 matches or more in Futures since then and I think Bammy has been quite jammy with his draw here.

Good couple of wins for Illingworth and Bamford in the first round and it's always good to see the Brits pick up another ranking point.
I think they both have a good chance of winning again and making the QF's, especially Bamford with the lovely gift of a draw he has been given which he must be loving. Tougher assignment for Matt but I think he has a shout of winning the match which would be huge for him if he could do so
