RE: Week 23 - Surbiton Trophy [$ 50K] 2008.

Well I think we could have another reason for why France have some many top rated players.

From the RG site :

"Did you know ?

With nigh on 1,100,000 licensed players, tennis is the most popular individual sport in France and second only to football overall"

Now, can we find out why it is so popular in France and not here?
That must be the answer that Roger Draper is searching for. Perhaps it is the regular league events that they run!

Didn't we have a French guy on the LTA who only stayed a short while?

And why do so many people play in France...just a hunch that it is a grass roots game..not just available for middle class folk in leafy suburbs....but played in all sorts of courts by all sorts of folk...who just love the game.

I think we are making it much more accessible...but still aways to go !

Yeap.....can't remember his name though....late 90s if my memory is correct....

Tennis is also very expensive over here in the States.  My wife always gives me a sideways glance when I am caught writing a cheque for Marcus' tennis.

It is a middle class sport, but at least we have tons of free courts during the Summer (for 7 months of the year they are covered with snow).

Kinsilla 4-6 3-2

Coupland 3-2 (with break)

(Amritraj won 6-1 4-6 6-4)

Isn't 'ForeverDelayed' doing a grand job there?
He can't really be watching and enjoying the tennis with continually running around and checking scores.
I havent fixed my tank leak either, I drained it and made a stop plug out of an old ball valve unit, now I have to fully empty and remove tank for inspection.

Patrice Hagelaar (not sure about the spelling) is the name you are looking for.

Kinsilla 4-6 6-3 0-0

Bamford leads 6-3

2nd round Mens qualies will be carried over until Monday.

Only surpise is when looking at today's forecast that this much play was made.

As I've said before - They should employ people who are interested in tennis!

Particularly ironic that on the LTA/Surbiton website it is headed ". Check this section for all you need to know about the event, from ticket and travel info to the latest news and results. ...." and yet they don't even have the qualies drawsheet let alone the main drawsheet.
It's a waste of time emailing roger.draper@lta.org.uk  as I believe he too has lost interest at this level after an impressive start.
This is a pretty well supported and prestigious challenger and yet is getting as bad coverage (or worse) than a GBR futures event, at least they usually publish the draw sheets and oop.
