Yeah, Ren will probably lose 0 and 1 but I'm all for younger players getting an early taste of the big stage. Many players of her age are playing in the main draws of big tourneys, so it is fine, I think.
Anyway, it will never happen. Why let young players get an opportunity when you can always give it to outsiders?
How about Yasmin Clarke for one of the WCQs. She is the most in-form of our lower ranked players having made two QFs and two SFs in her last four tournaments.
I suppose one wild card will almost surely go to Urszula Radwanska given that she won the Junior tournament last year, besides being quite talented herself (although I'm beginning to feel that she's quite overhyped).
Urzsula has had loads of wildcards for tournaments already this year and never done owt with them. I'm slightly sceptical that she will be as big a threat as her older sister quite yet, but I could be wrong.
Be interesting to see how the next few weeks pan out for the girls as to who gets a look-in for a wildcard. I think Peter makes a good point about Yasmin. She's earned a shot in my eyes. Katharina Brown looks good too as an outside bet.
Katherina Brown would definitly be a good bet, shes had some good results on the grass last year and has been doing well in the 10/25ks thus year!
Regarding Ren and the juniors, I feel that they should be givin some oppurtunities and expierience on the big stage, but then again the LTA need to give them to the older girls as they have higher rankings and are more expierienced etc.
Yes, I'm sure that the older girls deserve it, too, but the thing is - who deserves it more?
I don't think think that any one of our players outside the top 150 and inside the top 700 have a decent chance of making the top 100 barring Cavaday. Sure... there are people like Elliott who are going up fast, but they are not very young (okay, they are young by social terms, but in women's tennis you have girls winning Slams at 18).
If you're not upto a certain level by the time you are 17 or 18, chances are that you won't get to the top 100, ever. I'm not trying to discourage anyone - by all means, there are exceptions and if you work hard enough maybe you'll get there someday. But the thing is, the governing body of a country can't go and favour people who could be exceptions; they should give the best opportunities to people who have a shot at making it to the top. And that means people like Moore, Robson, Rae, the Rens etc.
(With all due respect to Elliott whom I don't want to make a scapegoat and who definitely deserves a wild card into the main draw this year.)
The report on the Birmingham qualifiers mentions that Broady, having failed to qualify will now go on to the Wimblemdon wild-card play-offs at Aorangi Park starting on Tuesday 10th June.
Does anyone have any details about these - who is playing etc.?

I am not pleased with the first of these. Bally and Naomi rarely play doubles, whilst we have 4 players (Sarah Borwell, Anna Fitzpatrick, Anna Smith and Anna Hawkins) who are all in the top 250 after successes this year. It is inconsistent of the LTA to nominate Bally and Naomi (the LTA site confirms that they have made the nominations) whilst sticking to 250 as the approximate cut-off for main draw singles WCs. All these 4 need and deserve the experience plus money.
well put david. i agree entirely. why would they not give anna msith one she won two consecutive doubles titles this year both 25k. hawkins has improved her ranking so much and keothavong baltacha never play doubles their doubles rankings are awful. its just away of funding them but i think its stupid. personally i do not think fitzpatrick deserves a singles wildcard. yes she is a great player but she has not been this year. she has had some horrid results and i would be very surprised if she wins a round at wimbledon.
Anne and Mel? They got one into Birmingham and only managed to win 2 games... I know Mel is talented in doubles, but Anne? There are others more suited to doubles who should have been awarded the WC.
