britishtennis.net radio - discussion thread

Next month britishtennis.net  plan to launch our own radio station, based on the hugely popular radiotennis.com (we could be the new Kens !)..........the idea is to do some commentary on a few days of surbiton, queens qualies and possibly nottingham qualies

It should be fairly straightforward to set up, all it requires is a laptop, a few microphones and a group of about 5-6 of us translating our posting ability into commentating on matches and discussing the tennis live on air.........lots of possibilities

the idea was suggested by stephen lorimer (who joined last year as "slor")  who's going to help co-ordinate this

however we need to work out and come up with some ideas for the broadcast  ie music etc  and technical details such as linking the broadcast so that listeners can get to it from the britishtennis.net website.........

I mentioned this a few months ago and a lot of people were very keen in being involved....please let me know if that's still the case,.......should be a lot of fun

Sounds brilliant if the technical side can be sorted out ... still, if Ken can manage it ... ! smile.gif I'd be very happy to get involved if it's being done at an event I'm attending.

I assume we don't want to be doing this too close to the court and disturbing the players, so are you thinking of trying to arrange something with the powers that be to have some kind of box like Ken does?

Without a doubt, it's an excellent idea.

I don't think I can do anything to help it, but if there is anything I can do from home, I will. Or else I'll just encourage the ones who do it!

Although it probably will be difficult now, do try to look for sponsors in the long run.

Excellent idea; like Greenleaf, I can't imagine how I can help, other than offering moral support, but good luck with the plan.

Hey sheddie, I said before I'd help, offer still stands. I'll be at Queen's qualies and most likely Nottingham qualies too.

I'll be at Queens qualies if you need any more to help out.

this urgently needs bumping if its going to happen......I've had a look into the technical side and it seems quite simple, a number of free software programs which allow you to stream media.....www.shoutcast.com is the one I'm favouring atm

I've put a post on the am.com forum so see if we can get any of their crew to boost our numbers

Atm its really the practicalities which need sorting....some ideas would be useful...

Problems at the moment are:

the laptop for doing this.......and how long the battery would last.....I'm also asking the bt.net guys about this....would be great if we could bring our own without having to ask the lta to lend us one

ideas for where we could do the commentary from (info from people who've been to surbiton in the past would be useful).....radiotennis.com do it from some kind of mobile ice cream van, might have to ask lta help about this

minor issues: ideas for the broadcast itself, we'd probably need some music to play between matches to give ourselves a break

and also....who can say they're definates for surbiton and/or queens (anyone is welcome to join in, with the sole exception of non-human wildlife forms who happen to be reading this thread)

I'm assuming atm the definates are:

Surbiton: Sheddie, Jazar

Queens: Sheddie, John, Josh, Count Z (he hasn't said anything yet but I know he's going and I'll twist his arm...well I did let him beat me in one of the recent pick'ems so he owes me one)

I don't think that a battery will last even a single match (at least not on my laptop). And of course we can't swap just before Boggo is about to serve out a match.

Anybody have/can hire those portable chargers for phones and laptops? Or is there some other way to do it?

I think you would definitely need power. laptop batteries suck.

Depending on which court you want to cover at Queens you might be able to power it from an adaptor to a car 12v socket?
