RE: Week 20 - Futures F19 (10k) - Balaguer, Spain

WOW - we have a new Brit on the rankings, the first for a while! smile

L32: (Q) Alexander Ward UNR beat David Estruch (ESP) WR 1023 by 2 & 3 biggrin

L16: (Q) Alexander Ward UNR v (3) Roberta Bautista-Agut (ESP) WR 485

That's an awesome result for young Alexander!

Edit: sorry for making your comment appear out of the normal order, JL, I went to hit edit to add in the Qs and pressed delete instead!

Great win for Ward and good to see him finally getting on the ranking board after weeks of doing well in the qualifying draws in Spain, and him thrashing someone on the verge of the top 1000 shows great signs for the future

He only turned 18 at the end of last month. Maybe he's the new Morgan Phillips ...

Great result from Alex Ward. He's been doing well in the qualifying for a while now so it was only a matter of time. But still great! Hope he can add to it tomorrow, but it's stil a fabulous week for him clap.gifbiggrin.gif

There've been two new rankers between Dan and Alex, freerider. Dan's first point came in week 3, followed a fortnight later by George Coupland; the most recent has been Tim Bradshaw, who gained his first point in a Mexican Futures after losing in final qualifying, but getting a Lucky Loser place. Alex is thus our fourth new boy of the season to the ranking list.

Bradshaw has been ranked before though.

Brilliant from Alex!  He's won his 4 matches here, 60 62, 61 61, 63 63, 62 63.

That's commanding stuff.  clap.gif

Fantastic, it is always nice to see the young ones starting to have some success in the big boys league.

Yes and he didn't really play much Junior tennis either, I wonder whether he attended school full/virtually full time until the age of 18 to gain a good education before he hit the circuit. However I do think that skipping juniors is a good idea, and obviously hitting the senior circuit as early as possible for the better players; Ferrer is an excellent example of this, barely won any matches when he first started out but it helped build character and experience in the long run.
