Shame that it wasn't closer but it has still been an excellent week. Now lets hope this week is not a flash in the pan, although I don't think we should expect to see this sort of run every week from Ward, i.e lets not get too excited just yet!

A shame that he could hold the run for one more match but still an exceptional week so not really disappointed.

Nice touch of reality there James, thanks. It remains to be seen where Ward goes with this, but you can be sure we'll all be watching closely whatever happens!

Contrary to the tournament website it was 18 y.o. Alexander Ward who played here, in the process earning his first ranking points and Futures final.  This is confirmed by all of the ITF records.

Got 2 replies from the LTA re Alex Ward.

Jonny Marray apparently won a futures in India in 2001 when un-ranked.

Also Paul Hutchins was very pleased on Alex progress and is hopeful that this is a sign of some 'depth' in the mens game.

He encourages all at britishtennis.net to "keep up the good work"

Nice to know that someone at the LTA is keeping their eye on things at the weekend. smile.gif

Here we go - Marray's win was actually at Lucknow in November 2000, on grass smile.gif That makes Alex the third Brit to reach a Final when unranked this century.
