RE: Week 20 - Futures F2 (10K) - Heraklion, Crete

Lovely to see another full house of wins here this week biggrin.gif Sean is really on form at the moment, great to see. I saw him play last summer (against Rusby, who beat him in straights) and he seemed to have quite a bit of potential, but needed to cut out the ues and not be so hard on himself - making himself play worse, which just started a vicious cycle. It would appear that he's worked on those things so great for him, and hopefully he will continue to push on smile.gif

Fabulous win for Sean, who has now racked up 7 ranking points in three weeks, having started that period with just 4 ranking points in total. He has 2 points coming off on Monday from Greece F1 last year, but he will be in the top 1000 on Monday week. biggrin

I am not sure what Ken was up to in that 1st set, but he certainly imposed his authority in the other two. smile

L16: (1/Q) Ken Skupski WR 630 beat (WC) Konstantinos Mikos (GRE) UNR by 6-7(6) 6-0 6-2 smile
L16: (Q) Sean Thornley WR 1064 beat (4) Enrico Ianuzzi (ITA) WR 656 by 4 & 5 biggrin

QF: (1/Q) Ken Skupski WR 630 v Daniel Danilovic (MNE) WR 1061
QF: (Q) Sean Thornley WR 1064 v David Ollivier-Baquero (ESP) WR 1059

As Yorkie said, the bottom half of the draw has really opened up, with all the seeds out. In fact, everybody left in that half of the draw is outside the top 1000!

Three points at Eastbourne, two in Greek F1, two so far this week equals eight? What have I missed, Steven?

Thornley is definately having a great year so far and looks like a top 700 player at the moment, which has to be his target for the end of the year

Sean has 7 points at the moment, with 2 on and 2 off on Monday; he needs 25 for a top 700 spot. This week and next offer 20 points for a title and a final appearance, so an ambitious Sean may have a top 700 place as his target for the end of May!

I think he meant that other place on the south coast of England with "bourne" in its name.

Oops, for some reason I was counting QFs in both UK clay court Futures and only one Greek one. ashamed Well done for all being more awake than me!

Sorry, Seagull and RedCabbage - I should have written Bournemouth, I assume?
Still, they're both so far away! (echo, echo ...)

Shame about Thornley losing but he's done a lot this week, so it is okay.

True, he definitely has, but I doubt he'll ever be in a QF again with nobody inside the top 1000 in his half of the draw, so it's a missed chance. Wasn't even close though so maybe D O-B is better than his ranking suggests.

Lejnieks is WR 654. His last two matches against Brits have been a 1 & 3 loss to Boggo in Lanzarote and a 2-t/b win over Kennaugh, so hopefully that means Ken should be able to take him.

Bad luck to Sean today he has been playing well, I'm pleased to see him making progress.

I do think some of his recent form has been down to him working very hard on his movement and footwork, Aparently he's been doing a lot of dancing and  I have heard through the grapevine that his dancing has been described as "off the richtar" I have seen brief bits of the big man in action and i myself have high hopes that if his tennis does not work out then he may have a big future in dancing

Good to see Skupski continuing the winning week. One more win and we get a fabulous picture of him on the greek tennis site (lta equivalent), so even more reason to hope he wins!

Shame for Sean but take nothing away from the week he's had and hopefully he can continue to build on that.

And from the aforementioned website, a paragraph on Skupski's match against local hope konstantinos Mikos. Below in the orignial greek if anyone can translate. All manage is the Mikos lost to Ken Skupski (the number 1 seed)... He took the first set 7-6(3)....the next two sets when to Skupski by 60 and 62. Any advance on that?

Edit: hmm, copying and pasting the original greek doesn't seem to be an option. Well, if anyone wants to venture a translation, its the 3rd paragraph (2nd after the subheading) here: http://www.efoa.org.gr/view.aspx?anid=1183

What a fascinating snippet of information - welcome to the site, Lloyd ( I see this is your 7th post, but i don't recall the others, I'm afraid.)

I notice you haven't played yet this season - may I ask why? Injured? Retired? Gone to uni? (Feel free to tell me to mind my own business if you don't want to answer, by the way!)
