This is played on clay in the Equelite Tennis Academy in Alicante, which is where James Ward trains. Players who aren't as famous as Ward but train there include the academy's owner, Ferrero, and Sharapova.

Easterbrook lost by 2 and 4. Slater won 10 ret. Hope her opponent is all right. Gabb won 36 76(4) 62. Hannah James lost 76(8) 63 to the fourth seed. Horne lost by 1 and 3 to Kovalets.
Watling lost to Carrena Busta by 26 62 63. Matt James lost to Santos Sanchez Patino by 26 62 62. Al Barnes lost to Vladimi Zinyakov by 62 60.
Slater lost to Hilda Melander by 60 61. The only good result - Gabb took out the sixth seed, Lucia Kovarcikova by 64 61. Convincing win against someone ranked almost 300 places above her.
Quarter final -
Gabb faces Melda Hilander of Sweden - 16 years of age and ranked 301 after playing 11 tournaments, so very much beatable.
Even better news is that the top seed has been beaten in the quarters and now she faces Bistra Otashliyska (not Ostra Bitashliyska!) of Bulgaria. She's 16 years of age and ranked 209. She has lost twice in straight sets to Jennifer Ren in the last seven months.
Gabb lost by 62 61. Shame but we can't expect her to beat higher ranked players in every round. Great week and hopefully she'll get a WC for Wimbly/Roehampton with another week of tennis.
