That's quite clearly a tank from Bamford, and I hope that it does pay off and he makes round 2 as otherwise he'll look pretty stupid to be honest. (didn't there used to be a rule that as soon as you retired so were ineligible for a LL spot, or have I just made that up? And maybe that should be a rule)
Good fight from Kinsella as well and disappointing to see him lose although not entirely unexpected against a top 400 player
Josh made it through after a bit of a scare, but Bamfs seems to have got his come-uppance, though he did take a set and the Mexican with the long name got thrashed 2 & 2 by Ball.
L32: (1) Josh Goodall WR 269 beat Juan-Manuel Elizondo (MEX) WR 767 by 3-6 6-1 6-4 L32: (LL) Neil Bamford WR 824 lost to Miguel Gallardo-Valles (MEX) WR 596 by 3-6 6-2 6-1
L16: (1) Josh Goodall WR 269 v (Q) Luis David Martinez (VEN) WR 814
The Venezuela thrashed Thornley 0 & 2 last year but got beaten by James Ward 4-6 6-3 3-6 a couple of months ago.

Everybody needs to chill and realise how little information we have to go on, especially you hoose, your denouncing a player based on a coupkle of drawsheets. I accept that if hes tank the match then it is wrong and definately a bad example for the juniors, but we really don't have any evidence.
L16: (1) Josh Goodall WR 269 beat (Q) Luis David Martinez (VEN) WR 814 by 2 & 5 QF: (1) Josh Goodall WR 269 v Nicholas Monroe (USA) WR 353 - Friday
Monroe lost to James Ward in 3 sets in January but beat Aucks 4 & 2 in Vancouver Ch Qualifying last July. He lost to Fleming and Kennaugh in successive weeks in 2005 but seems to have improved a fair bit since then! His first two wins here have been far more convincing than Josh's.
In the doubles, Goody & Bamfs won 2 & 3 and face unseeded Garza & Sugiyama in the semis, but Jonny & Kyle were thrashed 1 & 0 by the no. 2 seeds.

Good to see Josh carrying on his good form from last week and would be great to see him back that up with another title here and move back towards the top 250 and beyond.
He's certainly turned his form around this year and probably been one of our better players, and should be able to beat Monroe and make the semi's here
Having noticed that Boggo has 14 points to defend next week and will hence drop behind Josh to GB no. 4 on Monday week unless he can take out the no. 2 seed in R2 in Lanzarote, I am beginning to wonder if the two year long "Brits who get close to the top 500" curse (which is still affecting Seator and Kasiri, even though they aren't injured, but has been broken by Slabba and Ward) might have been replaced by a "Brits who dare to overtake Boggo" curse, since both Jamie and Josh now seem to be out of action.
Let's hope not (and it certainly didn't affect Andy Murray, who overtook him when he won the Aptos Challenger in July 2005), but if it has, Alex had better start gaining points again fast to leave the rest of them safe!
