Surely they'll have to choose a venue somewhere between Dunblane and Paisley, seeing there won't be any English interest in the match ... ?

We're claiming Boggo!

And Lloydy! weirdface

Would it be bad-mannered of me to say, "You can have them"?

Well, yes, obviously it would, so I'll not say it (just think it instead ...).

On another tack, I could teach you all to sing "Flower of Scotland" - on second thoughts, I could teach you the words: I could never teach any of my zillions of pupils to SING!

is this tie starting to look a bit harder now?

Bakers illness seems far more severe that 1st thought and reports of playing around wimby time seem to be mixed with the possibility of never playing again!! Boggo is in a downwards spiral at the moment and a loss to Muller will leave him around 160 pllaces off his career high, and he is also in danger of dropping behind Josh (although i dont think in the players eyes this is that important). Josh is rising again but still short of his career high and bloomers is down around 200 places of his career high of about 1 year ago.

its a bit depressing being a brit tennis fan isnt it :(

Just noticed in an article from the Times earlier this week that Neil Harman believes that the September tie is likely to be held at Wimby again. smile

"And the popularity of the place knows no bounds. John Lloyd, the Great Britain Davis Cup captain, has earmarked No1 Court as the venue for the World Group play-off against Austria in September, on the premise that, whatever the strength of his squad in the light of Andy Murray's insouciance and Jamie Baker's illness, grass will afford them a better chance of victory than any other surface."

I'd love to go especially with wimbledon being the closest of the dc venues but its a dire date for me.....finish work on the 19th so obviously can't go then and I start uni on the 21st !!!

grass should definately offer best chances.....I doubt koubek or melzer have exactly excelled on it.......Jamie Baker beat their no 3 Peya on grass last yr (queens rd1) and its Jamie's best surface and the doubles will be crucial

Of course it should be at Wimbledon. Why would anybody north of London expect to see any top class tennis?

Thats the most sensible thing said on this board for ages...we must try and keep us paranoid, saltire waving, kilt wearing, bagpipe weilding anti-english grunts north of carlisle never mind london wink.gifsmile.gif
(this is a joke.... for those of a ultra sensitive nature)

I suppose the redeeming quality is that London is probably more easily reached than many other places because the travel connections are so good. I can certainly get to London more easily from Tyneside than I can to Birmingham (just an observation, as I'm going twice to Wimby this year the Other Half would not look kindly on a trip to the DC)

On the other hand - weather? We were lucky last year, but I would have thought an indoor venue would have been safer - and Andy seems to play better indoors than out.

It certainly will be a great atmposphere there, though a bit  risky at that time of year even if it was ok last time.  Looking forward to it tremendously mind you! I will be going with am.com.

I have just had the nod that we ( as in me ) will get media acreditation for the tie.

Applications out in July so will let you know when everything is in place.
