Week 16 - ATP (€370,000) - Estoril, Portugal

Jamie Murray teams up with Kevin Ullyett here (Max taking a rest after Davis Cup duty?) and they are the second seeds. Tough first round match in Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer.

Looks like tennis musical chairs in the doubles ATM, as Knowle usually plays with Simon Aspelin (SWE), while Aspelin's compatriot, Jonas Björkman, Ullyett's regular partner, is presumably spending time with his wife & the new baby! wink  Whatever, first match on Court 2 at 11.00 (because of its westerly situation, Portugal is in the same time zone as the UK) tomorrow.  pray.gif

Match just started Mullet hold on sudden death deuce point. Of course this match made much more interesting after the news of the Davis Cup draw!

And a hold and another break and they take the set 6-2, 60% of points won so far.

Knowle/Melzer draw level at one set apiece. 76(5) so it's all down to the MTB.

K/M serving first.

Finally we get to write a British name in the R2/QF section of the draw sheet for an ATP event this week!  Phew, but it was close, though I guess not entirely unexpected, given the quality of the opposition! I had to go out to a meeting for about an hour at noon.  When I left, the score was 6-2 2-1 to the boys & I prayed desperately that they wouldn't have let me down & everything gone pear-shaped by the time I got back to my desk! disbelief.gif  What a relief that they hadn't - quite... (there should be a brow-mopping smiley for these close encounters! wink )

Cheers, Mad, but how do I reproduce it in future? confuse.gif

And wouldn't you just know it?  The match which will decide whom Jamie & Kev play in the QFs (Boris Pashanski & Olivier Rochus or Ivo Minar & Jiri Vanek) was rained off earlier at 3-1 to M&V! hmm

I like it Madeline but it's not in the 'more emoticons'. wink The Pashanski/Rochus v Minar/Vanek match is suspended cos it's raining. rofl.gif So we don't know who Jamie and Kev will play next.
