He was on the Alt list for the Florianopolis Challenger this week, but in fact, making another inspired choice, Edward has returned to Africa to play a Future on the Spanish enclave of Melilla, where he is the top seed in qualifying. Probably because of its location, this is one Spanish Future that Morgan hasn't decided to go to, though if he had, he'd have had a good chance of another point!

Possibly not such great schedulingafter all, I've just realised - Edward would have been a DA here if he had entered in the first place. However, hopefully he will get through qualifying without too much trouble and the good news is that if he does so, he should be the no. 2 seed in the main draw!

Some storming wins for the Brits here! Would have been a perfect day had Edward not lost a set to his unranked opponent, but never mind, at least he's through

No idea. This was his first-ever ITF match and I can't find any reference to him with a Google search. Given that he got a WC, maybe he lives in Melilla or something and is attached to the tennis club there.
He might just be (fleetingly!) the only Brit with a 100% record in professional tennis matches.

Rice didn't make it losing out to the 16th seed. Rice, Ward and Seator all figure in the doubles. They all play their first round doubles matches tomorrow, Ward and Seator being in opposition.
Rushby plays his singles tomorrow, second match, court 1.
Here are the qualifying results that led to the above - brilliant win for Alexander in QR2!
QR2: Alexander Ward UNR beat (q5) Marco Bella (ITA) WR 1114 by 2 & 3 QR2: (WC) Adam Lawton UNR lost to (q12) S Penades-Sanz (ESP) WR 1428 by 3 & 2
FQR: (q1) Edward Seator WR 503 beat (q14) Arnaud Agniel (FRA) WR 1573 by 5-7 6-2 7-5 FQR: (q4) David Rice WR 1111 lost to (q16) C Gomez-Herrera (ESP) WR 1722 by 6-4 1-6 7-5 FQR: Alexander Ward UNR beat Carlos Cuenca-Navarro (ESP) UNR by 6-4 3-6 6-4
Main draw as above plus a little more detail:
L32: (1/Q) Edward Seator WR 503 v J Such-Perez (ESP) WR 863 - (5) Rudy Coco (FRA) WR 631 is the other seed in an otherwise very weak quarter L32: (Q) Alexander Ward UNR v (4) Marc Sieber (GER) WR 599 - not a good reward for Ward L32: Tom Rushby WR 699 v Ludwig Pellerin (FRA) WR 837 - winner likely to face (2) J Viloca-Puig (ESP) WR 509
Only Tom is down to play singles on Monday. David is first in line for a LL place.

What looked like it might be a good week for the Brits in singles (for a change) is steadily getting worse - Rushby withdrew and, what's worse, it looks like David Rice forgot to sign in a for a LL place (or do they assign them at random now?) and was replaced by a lower-ranked lucky loser who took a set off Pellerin, which suggests it was definitely a winnable match for Tom.
Some good news - Coco lost, so Edward is the only seed left in his section. (this isn't the time to try the old GB trick of losing just as the draw opens up, Edward ) Both he and Alexander play tomorrow.

And in the doubles Ward and Ittogi got the better of Pellerin and Seator 4-6 7-6 (2) [10-2]. Rice and his partner also won 6-1 7-6 (3).
In fact it's been pretty grim for three weeks or so now.
I
At least Ward made a fight of it against the 4th seed, Sieber, going down in three sets 3-6 7-6(5) 3-6 but Edward seemed to have capitulated rather tamely after a mammoth 1st set losing 6-7(13) 1-6.
All is not up, however, Ward and Rice are still contesting the doubles. Not as much kudos as the singles but... they're still in there.

Came on here to report those very results! Bad day at the office for Edward, whose sterling resistance seems simply to have crumbled after that first set! Fingers crossed for the doubles boys, though ...
