Irish Player Progress

I don't know if any of you follow the progress of the irish players but Ireland's top 2, Louk Sorenson and Conor Niland are starting to make progress now with Conor reaching the final of the GB future last week and Sorenson WINNING Wolfsberg challenger a few weeks ago. Sorenson has improved over 100 ranking places already this year and is set to soon break the top 200m if he continues this form.

After achieving promotion from group 3, the Irish take on Morocco this weekend in group 2 euro/africa zone in Dubli.

This thread can be updated by anyone but ill keep the top page for current rankings of the selected Irish players and people can update results. I am heading over to Ireland tonight but not for the Davis Cup and i wish the boys good luck.

Ireland won!  Looks like it was an exciting tie.

Morocco were 2-1 up going in to the last day.

El Aynaoui was a set up on Sorensen, who came back brilliantly to beat the former Top 15 player, to level the tie at 2-2.

And then in the final match Niland was 2 sets to 1 down, and came back to win it for Ireland. clap.gif

Im a big fan of irish tennis, Louk's brother Kevin used to be a really good player and got to like 300 something in the world, he has stopped now, for some reason not really sure why.

Peter Clarke is really good as well, but not really sure why he has stopped. Its happend a few times, he has gone like on an awesome run of form, then just stops.

Hi im back from ireland and was delighted to read in the Irish Newspaper of the Davis Cup victory and they now have a home tie vs ukraine which will not be impossible either.

I don't know where the two of them are playing next week but if anyone could find out it would be great.

Nice thread and I think I'll post here once in a while.

Just a question, Michael - are you Irish or part Irish or do you like Irish tennis just like that? No offence meant in any way and of course you don't need to be Irish to like Irish tennis! Don't bother to answer if it's personal but I'm just curious because you've been cheering on the Irish players for a while now.

One very talented young player that Ireland has is Amy Bowtell. She's not world class (at least not yet) but she's just 14 and is ranked 522 in Juniors, which is quite impressive. I think she's very tall for her age. That's all I know!

Um im half Irish, i have dual nationality British and Irish and i presumed Ireland was awful at tennis as i don't know any of my large family over there ever even mention tennis let alone play it or anything.

I then saw Louk Sorenson and Colin Niland pop up now and again and followed their progress, seeing they both were improving and had just gained promotion in the davis cup so decided I would follow their progress on here for others and also for others to help contribute as well. Any input onto this thread would be great thanks.

O'Brien's out 6-0 6-3 but better news is Louk's convincing win over higher ranked Spaniard 6-0 6-3 and faces David Marrero next.
