Nottingham ATP to be replaced by Eastbourne ATP

It seems a good idea to me!

Hopefully they'll give Nottingham a grass challenger though...

It's not good for me, this was one of the highlights of my year. It'll be interesting to see if moving the event to eastbourne really does make a difference to who enters.

Trying to look at it from a neutral point of view though, there are a few places round the country (aren't there?) capable of hosting such a tournament. they can't all host one in one year, so maybe rotate every 5 years or so.

Sorry, but.....WOOOHOOOO!!! I'll have to start taking a week off to watch the tennis.

Not sure how they'll fit a joint event into Devonshire Park, though. There's only two courts with seating. Maybe they'll put temporary seating around one of the outside courts.

A shame if this means Nottingham has lost all it's tennis. But otherwise I think it could be a good idea.

Just one question though...what happens if (when) it chucks it down with rain all week? Now they'll have twice as many matches to get through, surely there's a possibility of some real problems there? Especially if there are only a few courts.

I am not concerned as long as the wild cards still go to Brits.

I'm not sure about the indoor facilities. As luck would have it, I have a programme to hand from the 2006 event (one of the benefits of never tidying one's desk) with a site map at the back and I'm unsuccessfully trying to spot where any indoor courts might fit.

Court 2 could be used as a show court with a bit of extra seating but I don't think it's used except in qualies for the WTA event. There are three other courts (six in total) apart from the practice courts but, from memory, there would be nowhere to put even a couple of rows of seats between them.

Gutted. I only live just down the road in Mansfield and go every year to the Open. There always saying what a great tournament it is and that the players really love the facilities. It is such a shame. angered.gifcensored.gif

Then in 2010 Birmingham WTA will move south you can bet..............

"In 2010 the venue for the womens (Sony Ericsson WTA Tour) tournament currently held in Birmingham will be determined by a bidding process with any venue meeting the criteria able to bid to host the event." (source LTA)
