RE: Week 15 : Futures F14 (10k) - Malaga, Spain

Who Antoni Gomez???

Edit - just clicked on the name and see he has been playing in Spanish futures for a while last spring/summer. A student perhaps? I just haven't noticed him as British.

Phillips def. Drozdov - 6-1, 6-0
Rice def. Barlow - 6-3, 3-6, 6-4
Gomez lt. Tamagnone - 1-6, 1-6

Good win for Phillips and Rice as well, although surprised Rice struggled against Barlow who didn't look too good in Exmouth - but good for him to get through a 3 round tussle against a fellow Brit - and well done to Morgan for a crushing win as well

But it gets better!

Phillips def. Bagnis - 6-1, 6-1
Rice def. Scherer - 4-6, 7-5, 6-3

Bagnis is at 929 in the world, just below he's career high so that is a fantastic win for him and makes it look as if he is back to his best, although Bagnis hasn't reached a QF in the last year, it's still a huge win.

Great win for Rice as well as he's come through 2 tough matches in 1 day, the second against a guy who was top 600 (although it looks as if he's been injured and out for a long time as he's dropped off the ranking lists and hasn't played any matches)

Unfortunately they both have tough final round matches

Phillips vs. Eysseric and Rice vs. Gonzalez, the 1st and 3rd seeds in the draw. Hopefully though LL spots are available so they know they don't have to win, or the Brits can carry on their form into this match and qualify

Will be looking to see Morgan use the PR now - he knows he's at a level where it's worth using it again

Spain F16 (21st April) has Morgan Phillips's name on the entry list, with him using his PR, so I guess that's when he's going to start using it.

So to confirm :

Final QR :

EYSSERIC, Jonathan (FRA) 1 WR481 v PHILLIPS, Morgan (GBR) UNR

GONZALEZ, Alejandro (COL) 3 WR589 v RICE, David (GBR) WR1246

I really think that both will make it....just a hunch.

What the hell is a guy with a ranking of 481 doing qualifying for a $10k future?

He's 22nd on the entry list.... obviously no-one withdrew so he had to qualify

Mixed Results......

Final QR :

EYSSERIC, Jonathan (FRA) 1 WR481 def PHILLIPS, Morgan (GBR) UNR - 7-6(7) 6-3

GONZALEZ, Alejandro (COL) 3 WR589 lost to RICE, David (GBR) WR1246 - 7-6(3) 6-7(3) 6-4

Morgan pushed him close.....and what a performance again from David.

MD1 :

And rewarded with a good draw...

Q RICE, David (GBR) WR1246 v Q DIAZ-VENTURA, David (ESP) WR927

He could face the no 7 seed (Poch-Gradin WR313) or a Q in MD2. There are several WC, Q and an SE in his bottom part of the draw.
