Baghdatis is out and Youzhny almost certainly will pull out which leaves Andy 17th so one more withdrawal required (Tsonga?)

It's already possible to enter the pick 'em for this, by the way, if you;re not going to be around at the weekend - but you'll have to pick virtually blind!

Unconfirmed reports that Berdych is out - meaning Andy will be seeded :)

Now confirmed that Berdych is out.

The entry list at present has Bolelli in as both alt and wild card, so as he has got into the main draw anyway I expect his wild card will go to somebody else.

Bolelli's wild card has gone to Ancic.

Andy can't possibly draw him in the early rounds AGAIN, can he? Surely fate can't be that cruel?

But unfortunately would probably play Nadal in R3.

Andys Quarter :

A Murray v Q
Safin v Wawrinka
Ferrero v Kiefer
Nadal v Bye

So max two wins at very best as Murray v Nadal will only every go one way on clay.

Am I right in thinking that any points he scores here count for his ranking as he retired here last year?

How many points for R1 or R2?

Like to see a couple of competent wins then just give it a go against Nadal, just like in Aus; ok the surface makes victory just about impossible but Andy's got weapons and he needs to use them. Heavy serving, some serve and volley, lots of big forehands, huge backhands, aggressive returns; not the passive rubbish he played against Novak.

I want to see a display that says in 2 years' time, when he's fine-tuned his game on clay, Andy could be a threat on this surface.

R1 - 5
R2 - 35
R3 - 75....that would mean beating Rafa...no point going on wink

Its good to remind ourselves of what Andy can play like. Thanks Kundalini. Agree totally.

Is this lad EVER going to get a decent draw?

I agree he is not going to get past Nadal on clay - what is it now, 100 wins out of 101 matches, or 101 out of 102?

1st round qualifier - sounds good, until you think that many clay-court specialists are not really highly ranked because they don't get wins on other surfaces.

2nd round - Safin or Wawrinka.  Well, Safin, it depends which one turns up, though he has shown a few signs of pulling out of his slump recently (QF in Munich this week). If he has already beaten Stani, which he would have to do to meet Andy, he is not playing badly.
Wawrinka - H2H 2 all, with the 2 most recent to Andy, but their only meeting on clay, which is Stani's best surface, went against Andy. And Stani is obviously in form, he is in the semi-final in Barcelona today.

Andy did play the first round in Rome last year so has 5 points to defend - he can only increase his total if he wins at least one match.
