Week 14 - Futures F3 (10k) - Antalya 3, Turkey

Edward Seator is a DA and will probably be seeded in the main draw here.

As for the younger Brits, they are still out here slugging it out in yet another 128 Q draw on clay: doh

Still at least 3 more wins for a single point. Look at the qualies draw in Exmouth. These boys are absolutely mad to be here.

I don't think you'll find Arka or me arguing with that, JL!

I know they are "encouraged" to play abroad by the LTA but they are not banned from Exmouth.  I can only presume they feel the experience and competition here will prove better for their acreers in the long run??????

No, no. The younger players have no option but to play here (as far as I know). If you have someone paying for your tennis, you have to listen to them.

So, yes. They are sort of banned from Exmouth.

There was a very funny situation with Rice last year - they first cut his funding and then banned him from playing events. Hey ho! The moment they cut his funding, they lost their right to ban him from events.

I understand where you guys are coming from but I do really think that surely the testing ground for these young guys is abroad. I agree that the LTA should be funding the foreign events.

All the direct LTA funded guys will go where the LTA want them to. The LTA pay for that.

The guys who are not LTA funded should be given grants dependant on age, talent and ambition.

International Events Player Funded Program (NON-LTA funded players)

To qualify for this program you would have to have at least 1 WR point.

I would set the age limit in conjunction with WR points.

Tier 1 - Under 18 :

WR pts                        ITF Events    ATP CH      Grant %

000-005 (WR1000+)        2               0              100
006-010 (WR1000+)        3               0              100
011-020 (WR0750+)        4               0              075
021-030 (WR0600+)        4               0              100
031-050 (WR0500+)        5               0              075
051-080 (WR0400+)        5               0              085
081-100 (WR0300+)        4               1              075
101-150 (WR0250+)        4               1              100*
151-200 (WR0200+)        4               2              075*
             (WR0199+)        2               2              050
             (WR0100+)        0               1              050

* 1 ATP Qualifying WC

What I am trying to show here is that as the young player rises up through the rankings the number of events rises and change. As their ability to fund themselves increases so the contirubtion from the LTA decreases.

I also think that you have to apply to join this program and during the application process you must demonstrate ambition and set goals. Each player should be reviewed at the end of the year and depending on how they have progressed would depend if they got a second year.

Tier 2 - 18-20 yrs

WR pts                        ITF Events    ATP CH      Grant %

005-010 (WR1000+)        3               0              100
011-020 (WR0750+)        4               0              075
021-030 (WR0600+)        4               0              100
031-050 (WR0500+)        5               0              075
051-080 (WR0400+)        5               0              100
081-100 (WR0300+)        5               1              085
101-150 (WR0250+)        4               1              075*
151-200 (WR0200+)        4               2              075*
             (WR0199+)        0               3              050
             (WR0100+)        0               1              050

* 1 ATP Qualifying WC

Tier 3 - 20-22 yrs

WR pts                        ITF Events    ATP CH      Grant %

011-020 (WR0750+)        3               0              075
021-030 (WR0600+)        3               0              100
031-050 (WR0500+)        4               0              075
051-080 (WR0400+)        4               0              100
081-100 (WR0300+)        4               1              085
101-150 (WR0250+)        4               1              075*
151-200 (WR0200+)        3               1              075*
             (WR0199+)        0               2              050
             (WR0100+)        0               1              050

* 1 ATP Qualifying WC

As the player rises up the rankings during the year he moves up the ladder within the Tier. The number of events does not re-start from his new position it is just the number of events he is allowed increases.

So if you were accepted to Tier 1 and had a WRof 1000 you would start of with getting 3 events at 100% grant. If  you had managed to rise to WR750 you would a further event (Assuming you had used up your 3).

So sucess during the year has the potential of additional events.

This could cost a few hundred thousand pounds per year...but are we serious about getting 5 players in the top 100 in 4 years time ?

I have just taken best guesses at number of events and grant % but hopefully you will get this.....100% certain that something like this will never happen but if I were in charge....

The LTA do not want to make it easy for players...they want them to work hard and earn what they get. Agree with that. But basically cutting down the opportunities for our players to play and make a living at home but yet do nothing to help with expenses does seem short sighted.

I do think that the NTC is a good thing...and excellent place which I hope to go and see in June. But lets get the players out there on varied surfaces and varied conditions to toughen them up and see what cream rises to the top.

Good chance for Seator. I hope he had a chance to practice with the doubles last week and some time on the courts in between.

FQR: Daniel Cox WR 951 lost to (q4) Andre Wiesler (GER) WR 659 by 2 & 3 cry

Total matches won by Cox in these Turkish Futures: 6 smile - Ranking points gained - 0 dohbleh

L32: Edward Seator WR 504 v (Q) Thomas Schoorel (NED) WR 741

Schoorel double-bagelled Brit Ross Henson in QR1, not that this tells us much. However, in Portugal earlier this year he beat Slabba but lost to Josh, which tells us a little more.
