A few close matches there but another poor set of 1st round results. It was only about 3 years back when we had all the last eight in some home 10k's, sometimes 7 of the last eight in 15k's. Now we have next to no-one playing challengers and only a couple per week making runs at futures levels...........its gota get better soon, theres not to many "green shoots" visible though
Here's a round-up of all the results info that was trickling in on the previous page, plus the R2 pairings involving Brits:
L32: (WC) Sean Thornley WR 1258 lost to (1) Ivan Cerovic (CRO) WR 296 by 7-6(4) 6-0 L32: (WC) Maniel Bains WR 1051 lost to Uladzimir Ignatik (BLR) WR 601 by 6-7(3) 6-4 6-1 L32: (WC) Matthew Illingworth WR 1136 beat (7) Alex Slabinsky WR 392 by 7-6(3) 6-4 L32: (Q) Jonathan Kinsella WR 1491 lost to (3) Conor Niland (IRL) WR 314 by 4-6 6-2 7-6(5) L32: Tom Rushby WR 703 lost to Rudy Coco (FRA) WR 621 by 2 & 4 L32: Ken Skupski WR 665 beat (8) Juho Paukku (FIN) WR 438 by 6-7(4) 7-6(5) 7-6(5) L32: (LL) James Feaver WR 1024 lost to (Q) Jerzy Janowicz (POL) WR 706 by 2 & 2 L32: Chris Eaton WR 652 lost to (Q) Dawid Celt (POL) WR 1105 by 5 & 3 L32: (Q) Neil Bamford WR 825 beat (WC) Burnham Arlidge UNR by 6-1 3-6 6-3 L32: (4) Josh Goodall WR 347 beat Denys Molchanov (UKR) WR 568 by 3 & 3 L32: (Q) Kyle Brassington WR 1240 lost to (6) Peter Gojowczyk (GER) WR 376 by 1 & 4 L32: (LL) Tim Hewitt WR 1017 lost to (LL) Andrej Martin (SVK) WR 1181 by 3 & 2
A real shock there, with Matt beating Slabba. Jonathan was so close to a brilliant result, hopefully he'll push on and start converting this kind of match into ranking points scored before long. It says a lot for Ken that many of us saw his win coming, though it must have been a very long match if it had three close tiebreaks. Celt beating Eaton makes FD's 15 points look even better. Poor capitulations by Rushby and the two LLs (who got very nice draws for LLs!), it has to be said.
Anyway, a pretty dire day, with just 2 wins and 8 losses in Brit v non-GB matches, but at least we are guaranteed one in the QFs, and you would hope Ken can make it two.
L16: (WC) Matthew Illingworth WR 1136 v Uladzimir Ignatik (BLR) WR 601 L16: Ken Skupski WR 665 v Rudy Coco (FRA) WR 621 L16: (4) Josh Goodall WR 347 v (Q) Neil Bamford WR 825

Full results from ITF site as few results seem to be coming in differently, and alos inclusion of LL James Feaver: I Cerovic (1) bt S Thornley (WC) 7-6 6-0 R Norby bt R Granbow 4-6 7-6 6-1 U Ignatik bt M Bains (WC) 6-7 6-4 6-1 M Illingworth (WC) bt A Slabinsky (7) 7-6 6-4 C Nirland (3) bt J Kinsella (q) 4-6 6-2 7-6 J Kosler (q) bt C O'Brien (q) 6-2 5-7 7-6 R Coco bt T Rushby 6-2 6-4 K Skupski bt J Paukku (8) 6-7 7-6 7-6 J Janowicz (q) bt J Feaver (LL) 6-2 6-2 D Celt (q) bt C Eaton 7-5 6-3 N Bamford (q) bt B Arlidge (WC) 6-1 3-6 6-3 J Goodhall (4) bt D Molchanov 6-3 6-3 P Gojowczyk (6) bt K Brassington (q) 6-1 6-4 A Martin (LL) bt T Hewitt (LL) 6-3 6-2 S Bubka bt M Kunnap 6-2 6-3 D Olejniczak (2) bt H Kontinen (q) 6-2 6-7 6-1
2nd round draw: I Cerovic (1) vs R Norby U Ignatik vs M Illingworth C Nirland (3) vs J Kosler R Coco vs K Skupski J Janowicz bt D Celt N Bamford vs J Goodhall (4) P Gojowczyk (6) vs A Martin S Bubka vs D Olejniczak (2)
None of the GB matches figure in the first few results from Exmouth today ...
Jerzy Janowicz (Pol) bt David Celt (Pol) 6-2 7-6 (9-7) - Janowicz will play the winner of Josh v Bammy Peter Gojowczyk (Ger) bt Andrej Martin (Svk) 3-6 6-4 7-6 (10-8) Dawid Olejniczak (Pol) bt Sergei Bubka (Ukr) 6-3 4-6 6-4,
... but Martin taking Gojowczyk so close suggests that maybe Hewitt's loss yesterday wasn't as bad as it first looked. (not that it was good!)

Only one of those blighters in the QFs, as opposed to two Poles ( ) - & two Brits, of course. Of those, I reckon Skups' win was the more impressive...!
L16: (WC) Matthew Illingworth WR 1136 lost to Uladzimir Ignatik (BLR) WR 601 by 4-6 7-5 6-3 - not a bad attempt L16: Ken Skupski WR 665 beat Rudy Coco (FRA) WR 621 by 6-7 (9-11) 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 - the Skupster loves getting into long t/bs this week! L16: (4) Josh Goodall WR 347 beat (Q) Neil Bamford WR 825 by 6-2 7-6(2)
.... and here's some new stuff:
QF: Ken Skupski WR 665 v (3) Conor Niland (IRL) WR 314 QF: (4) Josh Goodall WR 347 v (Q) Jerzy Janowicz (POL) WR 706

Born in Birmingham but playing for Ireland, Niland has been knocking on the door of the top 300 recently, but his last Futures title, in Croatia on indoor clay, will come off the rankings at the end of Miami, with a Final the following week coming off soon afterwards. He beat Ken 6-3 7-6(9) in the Foxhills Future last August, soon after Ken had started playing on the circuit in earnest.
Just 17 years old but 2.02 m / 6' 6" tall (!), Janowicz played just two Futures last year, winning one match, but he shocked Mahut in R1 of the Wroclaw Challenger at the end of January before playing two Swiss Futures and winning the second. This is the only the second time in 7 events that he has reached the QFs - he lost to Carsten Ball in R2 in Jersey last week.

Whoops! Must have been posting at the same time. So, how about the doubles instead?
In the matches actually played today, the two Finns, Heliovaara & Kontinen, beat Bains & Pritchard 3 & 3 ( ), Cerovic & Kovacka (CRO/CZE) beat Illingworth & Thornley with more of a struggle, 6-7(5) 6-3 [10-4] ( ) & Ignatik & Kosler beat Feaver & Hewitt 4 & 2 ( ), so a nil return for the Brits! It gets worse, however: H & H have been handed a walkover into the SFs by Bamfs & Goody & O'Brien & Starakiewicz (IRL/POL) one by Eaton & Pedersen! So it's all up to the second seeds, Skups & Grambow, assuming they don't default at some point as well...
