RE: Week 14 Womens ITF (75k) - Tourhout, Belgium

It refers to the protected ranking the player has from being injured. Georgie was using hers to get into Patra. Perhaps it mean special ranking? idk

Yes, Claudine is a former top 50 player who was out for 9 months in 2006/7 and is using her Special Ranking spasmodically. Superb win for Bally - Kvitova is in a different league to the 5 players she beat last week. Kirsten Flipkens will be a danger in round 2 - a former top 100 player who is just returning to form, having also won a 25K event last week.

Flipkens is ridiculously up and down though. She was touted as the Belgian's next big thing. So technically speaking, what happened there then? She's been hovering inside the top 200 for about four years but nothing much since. Her Fed Cup results have been a little... er... rur-bish (to state Kanye West)

Wow, that's good going, beating Flipper, even if she is a shadow of her former self, well done Elena! smile.gif

Match report from WTAWorld:

"baltacha def. flipkens 6-3 6-3
I'd seen baltacha before on tv, but she didn't make a good impression then. today she did! a lot of power, too much to handle for kirsten. flipkens made a lot of points with her serve, but the ralleys went to baltacha most of the time."

Glad to hear that Bally put in a dominant performance.

Wohoo! Nice little winning streak here from Bally. She has 2 weeks off after this event and then goes to Korea where I think she did well last year.
