Very disappointing loss there from Alex and it just isn't happening for him at the moment, although you should never lose a set from 4-0 up, and he didn't take his chances in the 3rd set either
It's the kind of loss that makes you despair at what Boggo is doing - he should be doing better than he is, but keeps losing matches where he looks to be in control of and doesn't take the chances when they come
79% first serves, yet wins just 52% of the points and is broken 6 times just doesn't make any sense (and he won a better % on the 2nd serve)
Im starting to feel that perhaps Boggo isn't as good as everyone, including me, seems to think he is. For years i have plugged the whole, 'he will make the top 100 soon', but its just not happening and its hard to find any reasons that it will. I just wanted to see if anyone else is starting to share this view?
it certainbly feels like that and the worry is maybe alex is starting to think that too. he is only young but how long will he be prepared to contiune like this?

I think he needs to start winning some matches, so perhaps he should drop down to Futures for 2 or 3 weeks. He'd probably get some wins together and would also pick up a few ranking points as well which would give him something to build off and some confidence to go on and then start winning at a higher level again
I'm sort of glad I had the Miami pick 'em to sort out and ended up forgetting to follow this, it sounds like toe-curling nightmare.

... like Jamie B, you mean. It'd be great fun to have Brad attending the odd Future but the problem is, you can expect Jamie to be fairly clinical at finishing off lower-ranked players these days, but Boggo can self-destruct against just about anyone, and if he drops down to Futures and starts losing there as well, that might really be the end.
I can't believe the totally in control player I saw making Safin (not to mention the opponents) look like an amateur in comparison when he was playing doubles with him at Queen's last year can be the same player who loses a set from 4-0 up. Brad must wonder what on earth he let himself in for.

Shameless cross-forum (same board still) advertising here, but please check out the thread at: http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=61841&p=3&topicID=16162672 all about the Miami pickem contest we're running. Madeline, Stircrazy, DJ and anyone else who hasn't yet tried their hand, how about it? I'm about as rubbish as they come so don't worry about not being any good at it! The main focus of the BT.net team is to try to will the Count to beat Sheddie, I've a good feeling about this one...

sharing the disappointment this morning. Decided not to put myself through purgatory yet again last night and abandoned following the match at the start of set 3. Was hoping for a miracle overnight. Sadly didn't get one from Alex - wouldn't it be great to hear his views on what's wrong at present.
its obvious alex really doesnt want to play futures again, but he may have to if things dont pick up soon for him. i hope he doesnt pack it in but this is a very difficult time for him.
whilst al can self destruct vs players i doubt it would happen at futures, the players he has done it against arnt bad players and take immeadiate advantge of it to press home, at futures i doubt the same will happen, even in this match i think Al had bp's in 3 of VT's final set games.
playing a few and getting a string of wins togther might work for him. would he be better to play clay futures possibly than challengers in the run up to rg q, will he even make rgq this year?
with regards to last nights match i dont know yet if there was an injury invloved. the 1st sevre won % is the big worry, normally al wins about 70% of 1st serve, so what ever was going on yesterday needs to be sorted out.
what must alex do to find consistency in his game? see a hypnotist?

What I find odd is that Alex got so many 1st serves in yet scored so few points. Has working with a different coach (Brad) tinkered unsuccessfully with his action, or was he serving only just safe and steady because of injury? The figures certainly stand out as not normal.
Boggo's conqueror, Troicki, has just defeated Hanescu 4 & 1. We should get to know a little later this evening who is going to have the honour of taking on AM.
Shock! Horror! The South African qualifier, our old friend, Kevin Anderson, has taken out NoDjo, the third seed! He won 7-6(1) 3-6 6-4 in a shade under 2 hours 22 minutes! That said, how many times do we see that sort of thing happen to a player who appears to be on a roll...?!!!

Whoops! I've just posted this on the AM thread. Gasquet has lost the first set to Tursunov, too.
