Week 13 - Futures F12 (10k) - Zaragoza, Spain

QR1: David Rice WR 1255 v German Gaich (ARG) WR 1315
QR1: Morgan Phillips WR 1408 v (WC) Hector Ampudia-Gonzalo (ESP) UNR

Still no Rob Dee, I guess we're going to have to wait until there's another 4-round qualifying draw somewhere on the Iberian peninsula.

Just 17, Vivanco-Guzman beat the no. 4 Q seed in QR1, but before it gets too scary, he also lost 2 & 5 to Matt Illingworth in Portugal a couple of weeks ago. He has a good record against Brits otherwise, but nobody of Morgan's standard.

Come on Morgan, I think it's time for you to start scoring ranking points again!

Given that he's going to have dropped off the rankings completely on Monday, I think you're right! smile.gif

QR2 : Morgan Phillips WR 1408 lost to Andoni Vivanco-Guzman (ESP) WR 1408 by 2 & 4 cry
QR2 : David Rice WR 1255 beat (q3) Marcel Demoliner (BRA) WR 803 by 3 & 2 biggrin

Really excellent win for David, beating a South American ranked over 450 places above him on clay! Pity about Morgan, I thought he'd do a bit better in his match.

FQR: David Rice WR 1255 v (q10) Facundo Bagnis (ARG) WR 930

Rice demolished his doubles partner of the past few weeks. HOpefully they're still talking and will be playing doubles this week too!

Anyone noticed the name Tood Reid in the qualies draw here. Blast from the past.

Morgan will return!

Rice makes the MD, excellent 3 set win against a player ranked in the 900's.
Not a kind draw though
There was a chance he could have faced another qualifier or a wc but has managed to pick out a spaniard ranked in the 400's.

For those who like the detail........

FQR: David Rice WR 1255 def (q10) Facundo Bagnis (ARG) WR 930 6-1 3-6 7-6(4)

MD1 : BAUTISTA-AGUT, Roberto (ESP) WR471 v RICE, David (GBR) WR1255

BAUTISTA-AGUT has a 2/6 W/L record in 2008 so there is hope for David.

Another excellent win! MD uses new rankings:

L32: David Rice WR 1246 v Roberto Bautista-Agut (ESP) WR 465

Bautista-Agut thrashed Matt Illingworth 0 & 3 in Albufeira recently.

That's some great results from Rice there and he deserves a lot of credit for qualifying, and he looks to be making some progress in this swing out in Spain - doesn't look like he's going to get a deserved point though with that tough draw

Just noticed that this tournament is shown on tenispain as on indoor clay. That's a new one on me! I wonder if it makes a difference.
